  1. Congrats gps, that's awesome!!! I didn't even realize the top programs were sending acceptances yet. Would you mind sharing your subfield? Thanks.
  2. Why are so many people getting into Northwestern the past couple of days? Anyone know if this is the only wave of acceptances or if they will be doing more as they go through them?
  3. I applied to Chemistry departments everywhere and then Columbia and Harvard were Chemical Physics PhDs (but are still under the Chemistry department).
  4. Just got my first acceptance today: UCSD!! So psyched to get one before the holidays.
  5. To the person who got the interview invite from UCSD, would you mind sharing the interview weekends? Thanks.
  6. Hey just a quick question I was wondering about, if anyone knows the answer: If you can't make it to a school's visiting weekend because of a conflict, will the school still fly you out to visit another time or if you want to visit, will it be on your own dime? Thanks.
  7. From what everyone else on here says and I agree (eventhough I asked people to rate my chances as well), it is almost impossible to give chances on an application process that is such a crapshoot in many regards. The GRE scores aren't that important at all, as long as they meet the minimum requirements for these schools. The most important parts are probably LOR and research experience, so you would have to give some information on these as well as research fit with the schools you're applying to before anyone could really give you their opinion of how competitive your application is. Hope this helps somewhat.
  8. I'm almost positive Columbia does not require an official transcript, just like you said. On their GSAS website, it says to not send transcripts in caps until you have received admission.
  9. Oh shit, I didn't even realize Harvard needed hard copies of transcripts. It didn't say it anywhere on the site. I just checked my application and it says it on the top of the academic background page, crap. I just requested transcripts to be sent there but am now worried. Do you think those transcripts needed to get there before the deadline or does it not matter because we uploaded transcripts on the application page? Also, did you guys send it to the GSAS or the chemistry department? I just sent it to both just incase.
  10. Hey, do you mind sharing your stats (GPA, GRE, research experience, etc.)? Thanks.
  11. That is somewhat reassuring, but I am still very nervous about the low score.
  12. From what I have seen on this forum and just heard in general (and correct me if I'm wrong), below 50% probably looks bad and may hurt your chances, 50%-70% is a mediocre score (probably won't help or hurt you), 70%-80% is a good score, and 80% and above is a great score. I'm assuming this applies to domestic students and that they expect international applicants to score very highly (80% and above?). This is what I've heard, but who knows what the admissions committees really think about the test.
  13. I sent out the 4 for free that I could with the test. I just held off sending the ones that were either recommended or strongly recommended, which was only 5 of the 14 schools I applied to though, so the rest will see my low score. I still don't know how I got this grade, too late now.
  14. My biggest question is do you think they would penalize you for submitting a mediocre score if there may be some people out there who don't send a score?
  15. Hey, so I'm kind of freaking out because I just got my chemistry subject GRE score and it was well below what I had thought I was getting (~50%). 5 of the programs I'm applying to (Berkeley, Boston University, MIT, Princeton, and UCSB) either recommend the test or strongly recommend it, so I held off on requesting the subject score be sent to those 5 schools until I got my score. Now that I got my score, do you think I should sent it to these schools or will it hurt my application anywhere if it is not technically required (what's worse: a low score or no score)? Also, I was planning on sending all of my schools an email tomorrow telling them my subject score incase they havent started to evaluate my application without it and could get a head start instead of waiting a couple weeks for the official score report (since I submitted all my applications already). However, I am now thinking that I don't want to draw attention to this low score by telling them the score in the email. What do you think I should do concerning this? Any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.
  16. My project is in computational chemistry and is titled: Computational Design of New Inhibitors for TNFa in Multiple Sclerosis Drug Optimization. How about you?
  17. I'm applying for a Fulbright Full grant to Florence, Italy to do chemistry research. I am a senior undergraduate as well and have applied to chemistry PhD programs already, so at this point I'm just waiting until the spring to see what my options are. Good lucky to everyone else applying!!
  18. Well, I can view my scores Dec 10th, but the schools won't receive those scores until about 2 weeks later, so I was wondering if for those schools it would be possible to be accepted before the holidays, e.g.
  19. Also, I was just wondering: is it possible to get accepted to a school before they receive my subject GRE score (for schools where it is required or recommended)?
  20. I didn't apply to UIUC, but Boston University was definitely difficult to navigate. Also, did anyone apply to UCLA? For the questions about prior research and research interests as well as the personal statement, I had to type everything into the text box!!! It wouldn't let me copy/paste, which was very frustrating.
  21. Yes, all 3 of my recommenders submitted their letters to all of my schools. My applications should all be complete pending my subject GRE score because I took it Nov. 10th and it won't be mailed out until Dec. 10th.
  22. I don't have the publications or presentations at conferences, but I do have two summer research programs at prestigious institutions. I should have very strong LORs and SOP and should be competitive with regards to GPA, GRE, courses, etc. That said, I don't expect to get into most of the schools I applied to on first pass, so if I receive admission from any top schools I'm guessing these would probably go out some time in January? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.
  23. Hey so I just sent out all my applications a few hours ago. I was just wondering from people who have gone through this already: When is the earliest I should expect an admissions decision (if there's anyone out there from previous years who applied in mid Nov)? Thanks.
