  1. I feel you. At least you have a BSW under your belt! I seriously hope you do get into UofT!
  2. Congrats!! I was waitlisted at UofT last year, and waitlisted at Lakehead this year, still waiting on UofT again. But it's so good to hear people actually get off the waitlist. Right now my life is waitlisted.
  3. Also waitlisted at Lakehead, Orillia campus. I'm pretty annoyed only because I don't know if I should start finding full-time work for the summer. I would like to know how many people are actually on this waitlist. I feel like there's a good chance that people who applied to the HBSW also applied for their Masters. My hope is that their applications were so good that they also get into their Masters program and reject the offer
  4. Wow, that is pretty discouraging. This is my second year applying and I'm sure I have less than 200 hours of volunteer work. I was wait-listed last year but I explained why I could not volunteer much, which may have helped. Unfortunately I took that out of my written statement this year. Chances of getting in this year seem slim again! But my point is, I think it's dependent on a number of factors.
  5. From what I know, last year most people received the decision in the mail and then their results changed on the SGS Admissions website.
  6. You should be fine but I would definitely email Angela and let her know that you will be sending them in as soon as possible. I know I had to send my fall transcripts in as soon as my final marks were all available last year.
  7. Hi kenzie_123, the 5 credits is full, so your last 10 half credits that were in the 300/400 level.
  8. You took the words out of my mouth! My written statement answers for a Masters program were just over a page. I don't see how we can write 4, 3 page essays in that amount of time.
  9. My worst nightmare will be getting waitlisted at UofT and accepted into Lakehead since it starts in July. I know the chances of getting into UofT would be small but imagine getting off the waitlist in August after paying some tuition and starting at Lakehead lol. Alsoo, have you received the email from Lakehead with instructions on how to do the personal statement? They said it'd be today
  10. For those of you applying/applied to Lakehead's HBSW program, did you prepare by answering the sample questions they give you? Were they similar in any way? Am I okay if I have written personal statements for MSW programs in the past? This time limit is making me nervous. I have a poor attention span and to have to focus on something for 3.5 hours might just drive me crazy.
  11. http://www.artsci.utoronto.ca/newstudents/transition/academic/grading That's technically a 4.0 for an undergrad at UofT
  12. Hi SocialShawn, Is that your GPA for the full 2 years at York? I am pretty certain that UofT calculates GPA by looking at the 4 or 5 most senior level credits (in other words, 10 half credits), so as long as you did better in your final year you should be okay! Regardless, 3.63 is pretty damn good, I don't know if it is different for the advanced standing but I was wait-listed with a 3.25 cumulative GPA when I originally applied to the 2 year program (I did do better in my last 2 years though). However, I also know someone who was rejected twice from the advanced standing because their GPA was a 3.4 so i have no clue how they ultimately decide who's good enough for them lol
  13. hahaha my bad! I hope so, I definitely have more experience and my GPA went up a bit at the end of last year year, but I'm not sure if they look at your past applications and compare them. I hope we all get in. Glad you were able to get all of your materials in on time, very impressive!
  14. Logged in this morning to see my reference was submitted, such a relief! I hope everyone here has a successful day today, soon this stressor will be out of our lives i completely agree Daniiii! I get paranoid with mailing applications out, UofT definitely has the simplest, most efficient system.
  15. I have never felt more annoying in my entire life. The last reference I'm waiting on assured me it would be up Friday night so I don't know what's going on. It's making me absolutely insane
  16. I was waitlisted last year so i don't know what's best, but I never really included that sort of stuff on my resume. However, I did have a section titled "Graduate Research Interests" where I just jotted down what I'm interested in looking into if I were to get into social work
  17. Thank you for the encouraging words MSW13! I actually spoke to them today because I had a few questions so I did end up calling and leaving a voicemail. Thankfully they called back. I'm quite the anxious one when it comes to people not responding to my emails, I always question what I may have done to piss someone off lol, it's a bad habit I have to get out of! But it is due Monday so I was getting a little nervous because I know how busy she is, and it could have slipped her mind. Only 3 more days of this stress!
  18. I asked for advice for this before, but now it's getting closer to the deadline! eek. Anyhow, I'm still waiting on one more reference for UofT and they did not respond to any of my emails. However, i called them last Friday and they assured me they were working on it and knew the date it is due. It's been a week and it's still not uploaded. Should I call again or just trust them to get it done? I hate being annoying.
  19. Im having the same problem with deciding how much i should or shouldn't change my written statement. other than adding what i've been doing in the last year, i thought it was pretty good...but how would I know?!
  20. Thanks poppy_msw, i contacted Angela yesterday just letting her know of the issue, and she said the reference can be late if it's faxed, but i kind of want her to subtly hit to my reference, so i might enquire about that next week
  21. I was wondering if anyone has advice for approaching a reference who is extremely delayed in responding to emails? The UofT application is due by Dec 16 and I've only received one reply for every 5 emails I've sent (slight over exaggeration). At this point I'm pretty much emailing once a week and still not getting a response. A few weeks ago they told me they would be okay with writing me one as they did last year, but I'm getting super anxious at this point. Should I wait until December 1, is there a way to make it look urgent in the subject line without sounding like a total asshole?
  22. Thanks Kreamy! I did not know that about UofT :| I found 2 new references, but one's the same as last year and she's really busy so i'm going to look into that I believe I did! I sent in my paid application but only applied to Orillia. I'm just waiting for my two references. Hopefully this time around I have a better chance
  23. Thank you so much MSW13, your positive attitude last year was definitely inspiring! Thank you! Not a problem. I actually decided to apply to both so I'm hoping for the best. My boyfriend lives in Barrie and I live in Toronto so if I do get into one of my options I will be extremely happy either way. I only applied to Orillia as Thunder Bay is too far from home for me at this time. Luckily they weigh grades higher than anything else, I'm hoping that'll put me at an advantage. I also have all of last year's application's saved so I'm hoping those will benefit me as well. Thank you so much for the info!
  24. Everyone here has convinced me! I'm spontaneously reapplying to the MSW program at UofT haha
  25. Hi MSW13 and Jenste You both raised good points and I seriously considered it. I am even taking a graduate certificate in a related field and have more hours clocked in for work experience but I'm so busy right now I can't even imagine adding the stress of applying to a Masters again. The Lakehead application is due in January so I get a good couple of weeks to actually work on it. The program I'm in now is also taught by a lot of social workers and it's a smaller program so I think I can get better references after I graduate. Also, my thinking is that it'll still be another 2 years of school and it'll open up my options to apply to more schools that offer the 1 yr MSW.
