  1. I actually attend University of Toronto and I only know that we have up until a certain date to drop a course without it appearing on our transcripts. I had a friend who under special circumstances, dropped a course after this date and the best UofT could do for her was to have the credit not count towards her GPA but they couldn't remove it from showing that she dropped it on her transcript (some letter designation indicated it was dropped but didn't count). I had never heard of that happening before she told me, and she made it sound like she had to go out of her way to get it done, so based on that I'm not sure how good that will look. But different schools have different rules (and one would hope that they acknowledge that fact). I'm sure if you only did it once or twice it doesn't really matter.
  2. Sorry to deviate from the current topic but i was wondering if anyone could give me some sort of insight to this problem. For the last two years I have been getting consistent A's. However, my workload this semester is extremely overwhelming and my marks have been dropping. At this point I'm not very optimistic that I'll be getting more than one A at all this semester and i'm debating on choosing the CR/NCR option for 2 out of my 5 classes because I'm worried about my GPA dropping. How bad would it be if in my final semester most of my grades were B's? I'm afraid it's going to look like I stopped trying. Is it worse if I have two CR's on my transcripts? I hate that it's even an option and would prefer to only use that option for one course....but my GPA
  3. That was comforting, thank you! My logic is that anything will look better than nothing and any program that offers a placement opportunity will help with expanding my network. It definitely shouldn't hurt my chances
  4. Your situation sounds much like mine! Except you're about .1 ahead of me in terms of GPA. But I also have about a years worth of paid research experience and I've only volunteered for about year. Aside from that I have a lot of personal experience that I think might benefit me but I'm still not sure if I am a competitive applicant. Best of luck to you!
  5. I considered that but all programs that start in September are 2 years. Since it's an accelerated program (a 2 year program condensed into 1) I have to take an intensive two month semester in May and June. I don't want to enrol in a 2 year program because I want to try getting into a MSW program next year if I don't get any acceptances this year *sigh* Beth23, i only recently found out about the 2 year BSW option and I was so disappointed when I did! Had I know that was an option I would've definitely tried to take that route but I've already spent so much money on other applications + spent 2 months bugging my references for letters. Also I'm in the final year of my bachelors degree and my semester is killer, I'm afraid trying to run around and find time to complete another application would be too stressful and affect my marks
  6. Congrats jpcnac! I was curious, does anyone know about Social Service Work Programs? I realize college programs are nothing like graduate school but it would provide me with experience in an organization, which I really want. It was my back up if I don't get accepted to a Masters program right away and I just found out I got accepted to an accelerated program today but not sure what to do about it because it starts in May and we don't exactly here about M.S.W. decisions until April-ish. I think my grades are competitive (I've consistently been in the A range for the last two years) but I don't think I have enough experience in human service organizations...next to nothing. I volunteered for about a year at two organizations and one wasn't really social work relevant. But... I'm not very confident about getting in for some reason.. however, that might just be my nature. Ahhhh
  7. Does anyone know how long it usually takes to receive confirmation from Laurier that our application was received? I'm so paranoid, I regret not paying the extra 8 dollars for a tracking number
  8. Submitted my UofT application a couple of days ago. I have an exam on the 16th and 17th and I knew if I didn't get it over with I would be spending too much time on it and not studying! Gathered all of the references I need for the Laurier one today. Haven't even started that application, kind of stressing out about how complicated it is. Does anyone know if we can mail out the application on January 15th and have it still be considered? As long as it's post-marked?
  9. I've applied to UofT and Laurier. I considered York but I read on their site that they only accepted roughly 20 people last year for the two year program. I wasn't confident enough to lose another 100 bucks on an application... Maybe next year if this year doesn't work out.
