Math Section GRE for Masters Speech Pathology
midnight replied to BlueEyes's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Wow, that's awesome. I wish I could've forced myself to study more, especially since I haven't taken a formal math class in 12 years (yikes)! My Q score dramatically improved between my first and second attempt, but it's still low. My husband took a GRE practice test after a glass of wine and without any studying at all and scored higher than I did. Aside from things like Powerprep, Khan Academy, and Manhattan Prep, I highly recommend Barron's Six Practice Tests--very much the kind of questions you'll see on test day for both Q and V. -
OK, so I'm not the only one! This has been made worse due to the fact that I hate unnecessarily contacting people who are busy to check on things like apps.
-
eihpos, I know that this is a small consolation, but you were waitlisted by highly competitive schools, and the California public schools are all incredibly competitive due to the sheer number of applicants (also, I believe that they give preference to in-state students). There's still hope!
-
Oh, that looks good. Also, not sure if these are viable options for you since they're pricey schools in an expensive city, but Northeastern and BU perform cochlear implant research.
-
I lived in Herndon, VA, for five years, and I don't blame you for getting out of the DC/Baltimore area. It's insanely expensive, and I won't even start on the traffic and myriad other issues.... NIDCD might still be a good place to ask about schools that are involved with cochlear implant research and support.
-
Maybe you could contact NIDCD for school suggestions? (Also, if you're staying in MD for a while, see if they have any opportunities for you to work or volunteer for them?)
-
True, there isn't a traditional waitlist, but the cycle seems to be ongoing. Not hearing back yet doesn't mean rejection, and at least with the out-of-field group, the acceptances appeared to be spread out over a week.
-
It doesn't mean rejection. UVA seems to notify all throughout March and into April, not in one fell swoop.
-
Hi, meangreen! Good luck!
-
I think this week and next will be big for you, tuckerma!
-
Awesome!
-
If it helps at all, I studied French for roughly seven years from middle school through college, and learning Spanish has been a breeze for me. I think it's really fun as well, and I love that there are so many everyday opportunities to speak it. Even if you just have the chance to take two or three semesters, you'll come away with a solid foundation and will be able to supplement your studies on your own.
-
Ah, gotcha. It's too bad the Boston schools are all so pricey or I'd definitely recommend them for you.
-
mystique, are you open to living in the Deep South or the Southwest? If you decide to apply to schools again, I think there are a lot of good options in those regions, not to mention more schools in the Midwest.
-
I don't want you to stop posting here! You're not dragging anyone down; you're being real. It sucks to get rejected; it sucks to be uncertain about your future. When I hadn't heard from UVA and a few out-of-fielders already had, I threw the biggest pity party, got in an argument with my mom, etc. It was bad. And I didn't post about it here until now because I was embarrassed. But that's life--there are ups and downs, and it is awful when you want something so badly and aren't sure you can get it through no fault of your own. I just think you have a great shot at UVA and off the USC waitlist. I really do.
-
Thrilled for you! Perseverance pays off!
-
Ditto. I'm so sorry to hear about FSU, but there is still hope. It just sucks not having any concrete answers right now. And congrats to everyone who received acceptances or promising waitlists!
-
This is speculation on my part, but I think Boulder will start releasing decisions next week. That's when they've done it for the past three years.
-
Wow, that's an early deposit deadline. Your first acceptance was only two weeks ago!
-
Yeah, the school I'm waiting for is very much the same way, so I know that the total application truly matters, which is both great and nerve-wracking. In a way, a rejection will feel more personal because I poured my heart and soul into my SOP (and one of my profs said it was the strongest SOP she's ever read, which is an amazing compliment). I have to remember that it's not personal at all--admissions are just so competitive that there are no guarantees.
-
Yes, good luck! Also I think that acceptance might be travlnguy's (sp.?)? Congrats!
-
Well, your stats are phenomenal, so I know you're all set on that front! I think anywhere on your list will be great.
-
tuckerma, have you visited Boulder? I think we'll probably hear from them next week. I wish I felt better about my chances because it sounds like an awesome program.
-
I'm sorry, emelki! There's still hope, though I know being in limbo is no fun.

Um...
