  1. Several people here did get into CH (KatieLiz, junowhat, and I believe some other members whose names I can't think of at the moment). Your stats are fantastic, so your numbers won't hinder you, but they won't get you in, either. That's where your SOP, LORs, and CV come into play. It's best to ask yourself if you're more interested in school-based SLP work or clinical-based. If you're not sure, there are definitely programs that will prepare you for both, but it seems like many schools favor one over the other. You can email schools (though it might be better to wait until early summer after the rigmarole of admissions is over) and ask for more information. I think six or seven schools is a good amount, especially if you mix in some of the extremely competitive programs (CH, Vandy) with some schools with higher acceptance rates. If I could go back, I probably would've applied to five programs.
  2. Oof, annoying! I've had the opposite experience where everyone says I'll get in, but they have absolutely no clue how competitive admissions are or the kind of stats and experience the other applicants have. I mean, my lovely friends on this board kick my butt in so many ways, and we're just a sampling of the people who've applied!
  3. Good reputation and full funding?! I say go for it.
  4. Of course you need to wait for all your acceptances because funding offers can change things, but as everything stands now with McGill as more of a fallback option, I personally say pick Chapel Hill! (Again, without aid in the mix, I assume most of the schools you've applied to in the US likely fall in a similar price range for out-of-state students, give or take a few thousand dollars?)
  5. I think you'll be hearing from your other UW schools very soon (seems like a little over a week from now if past years' results are accurate). Good luck and congrats on Marquette!
  6. Same for me and UVA. It's not over until it's over!
  7. Wow, I didn't realize that Montclair was that competitive. (I'm not sure why I'm habitually surprised by the craziness of SLP admissions.) Can you try Kean, Stockton, and William Paterson if you need to reapply?
  8. You've gotten a lot of awesome advice, but I also want to stress GRADES and LORs since you can actively do something about them right now. You really want to pump up your GPA as much as possible during your last semesters, and you will eventually need to ask profs for LORs, so aim for A's, participate as much as possible, and establish relationships while you can. You want to be memorable. Also, start preparing for the GRE ASAP and give yourself time for a retake just in case. Stay busy with SLP-related work, shadowing, or volunteer positions for your CV and SOP. Figure out the programs you're interested in and visit the schools if possible. Tailor your SOPs to show why you're a great fit for certain programs and that you've done your research. And while I didn't do this due to personal reasons, apply to a good number of schools of varying competitiveness. The admissions process can be highly unpredictable.
  9. Oh, that's disappointing, but be gentle to yourself since NYU has a ridiculously early deadline and quite honestly I don't think they're very generous with aid under the best of circumstances. (And I realize that I sound overly negative here. Oops. It's a great school in a great city; it's just expensive!) Also, you're still waiting for your state school and several other schools to get back to you--everything might work out just fine in the end!
  10. What happens when you submit the FAFSA after the school's deadline? Does that affect anything other than possible in-house NYU financial aid offers?
  11. In my opinion, I think a school like Chapel Hill is worth the cost if you really love the program. Its location, reputation, and resources are top-notch, and SLP job placement is so high that you will be able to find work and likely not have any issues paying back your loans. HOWEVER, any program you choose will equip you for a career, and if expenses are too stressful or taxing for you, there's absolutely no shame in choosing a cheaper school. In previous years, many people here have turned down BU, Northwestern, NYU, etc., due to cost. You should do what makes you comfortable, but it's also a good idea to weigh the pros and cons.
  12. I'm sorry, caterpillar. I hope California brings you some good news!
  13. I'm out of upvotes, but +1! So many amazing options.
  14. There were definitely a lot coming from our SLP hopefuls, haha!
  15. Hi, AMarie! I'd definitely treat the ODU visit like an interview--dress nicely, come prepared with questions, and dazzle them with your enthusiasm and knowledge about the field. As for the USF prereq, does Utah State U offer a neuroanatomy course? (I don't know the cost, but it's worth checking out if you haven't already!) Or maybe Longwood, Radford, or Northern Virginia Community College? Oh, and I would love to read more about your experience with UVA's program. Can I message you later with a few questions?
  16. Congrats to all those who received BU and MGH acceptances! Wow! (I was just in Boston this past weekend; it's a great city, and you're going to love it if you choose a school there.)
  17. So do you! And thanks for chatting with me over these last few weeks (not that I'm going anywhere, just sayin').
  18. Just checked AY--nothing's changed; there are no messages or decision links or anything.
  19. I truly don't think it says anything about your status. I hope you hear something soon, but especially something good from USC since I can tell you love that program!
  20. Unofficial. The email was sent at 9:50 p.m. And thank you!
  21. I got an email! I just checked my phone and saw it.
  22. HOLY CRAP, UVA ACCEPTED ME.
  23. From your mouth to the adcom's ears! I really do wish that I had more direct, relevant experience so my app were beefier. And I should've applied to GWU and a few other post-bacc programs just in case--I'm kicking myself now for not fully understanding this process until I was already in the thick of it!
  24. Yeah, I'm still unnerved by the possible UVA trickle-down notification method. I will be thrilled to get in, but I may gnaw my fingers off if I don't hear anything definitive until mid-April, which has happened to applicants in the past.
