  1. Yea, I'm still waiting to hear too. I emailed the admissions coordinator last Friday and got no response. What does that mean?? Are we still in the running? Ughh....
  2. sooo is anyone else still waiting to hear?
  3. It must differ by dept. because I got a notification in March that I'm on the wait list for BBSP. Sounds like you're on the unofficial wait list. I'm in the same situation with UVA.
  4. Thanks rvict! That's good advice. I think I will email the one prof I interviewed with and try to get the lowdown
  5. It has been over a month since I received the notification that I am on the waitlist for my top program. Should I reiterate my interest in this program to the Admissions Coordinator? And if so, what should I say? The email mentioned that I may not know the final decision until mid-April.
  6. Yea that's what I heard too. I sent Jeff an email early last week and he never responded so I called him last Friday. He just said that they're hoping to have all responses out by this Friday.... I never thought to ask where on the list I was though.
  7. Funny, I am in the exact same position! I've really been freaking out though cause I have no other admits. I just want to know!!! Good luck and I hope you hear good news soon
  8. Called UNC-BBSP today. Everyone should be notified yes/no by the end of next week. Fingers crossed.....
  9. anyone at the first interview weekend for UNC-CH still waiting to hear?? I'm getting pretty nervous now....
  10. nice thread! i just got wait listed this week, and am feeling pretty depressed, so i'm sure i'll be a frequent visitor
  11. So I decided to email the Graduate Studies Coordinator to find out my chances of an acceptance off of the wait list. Apparently they did things differently this year so she’s not sure. They accepted more than double the spots they have available (I believe 30 for 10 spots) and have a wait list. In the past, they accepted 20 and did not always fill all their spots. So I guess that doesn’t leave me with very good odds. I’m just hoping a lot of people decline this year and I am high on the wait list. I have no other acceptances yet and just found out that my fiancé doesn’t have a chance of getting a residency in NC (my second choice, of course). I feel so hopeless. It’s like all my dreams are slipping right through my hands and I have no way of catching them. Worst part is I won’t know until mid-April. Sorry for the rant, it’s just hard to find people that truly understand your situation. As for cmliu, I am in a similar situation with one of the programs I interviewed at. My guess is that they rank the applicants somehow and then send out acceptances in waves and work their way down according to available spots. But who knows, I could be totally off.
  12. Yea, I suppose there's no way of really knowing... I thought my interviews went really well so I was surprised to hear I was on the wait list. Do you think it's unprofessional to ask what my chances are? All the email said is that it will be awhile before the admissions committee makes it to the wait list people.
  13. Hi, I was just notified today that I am on the wait list for UPenn’s Biology PhD Program. Does anyone have any stats on what the chances are of an acceptance from the wait list? This is my top choice and I am very anxious to hear. Also, is it typical for them to notify you of the decision before you need to let other programs know? Thanks!
  14. I'm contemplating Drexel. I think I'm going to decline the interview.... 4 should be enough
  15. How many interviews do you guys think is a safe amount to attend? I am definitely going to 4 and am contemplating a fifth. I have taken off a lot of work at this point and am wondering if a fifth interview would even be worth it if the school is on the lower end of my list. Thanks!
  16. UVa Biomedical Sciences is still reviewing applications. They received ~130 apps for 8 spots. Should be notified within 10-14 days…
  17. Anyone know if UPenn-CAMB is done sending invites??? Thanks!
  18. Anyone know if UPenn CAMB is done seding out interview invites?? Thanks!
  19. I'm getting married at the end of May. If I get accepted, I'm using up all my PTO and sick days that I've acquired the past 1.5 years. I’ll then quit my job a week before the wedding and enjoy being a newlywed the summer before grad school starts. Also, I’m sure I’ll be busy writing Thank You Cards, exchanging gifts and all those fun things that happen after a wedding. If I’m not accepted…. Continue working as a technician. I don’t plan on reapplying, as this is already my second attempt. Maybe give it another shot after a few years and some serious thought as to what went wrong.
  20. I feel ya! I'm super excited about my UNC interview, but one more invite before Christmas would make the holidays soo much nicer!
  21. Commute to work: "I think I'm gonna hear something today. If not today, definitely this week. I'm feeling good." Commute home: "It's probably best if I don't get in anywhere, I'm not cut out for grad school. What does it matter, I’m not gonna get accepted anyway."
  22. I need a little help determining which programs to apply to. I am interested in studying genetics, more specifically, epigenetics, and even more specifically, histone modifications/histone code. So far I have 4 schools I'm definitely applying to (see below). My stats aren't amazing, but I do have quite a bit of research experience and should have good letters of recommendation. Does anyone know any other programs that are strong in epigenetics that I would be competitive at? I'm thinking UPenn and UNC are my 'reach' schools, so I should probably avoid applying to more top schools. I'm hoping to apply to a total of 7-8 programs. Undergrad Institution: Small lib arts - not very well known Major(s): biology Minor(s): GPA in Major: Overall GPA: 3.44 (much higher senior year) Position in Class: not sure Type of Student: Domestic, female GRE Scores (revised/old version): Q: 159, 750, 75% V: 157, 560, 73% W: 4.0, 54% B: n/a Research Experience: 2 years in undergrad studying biochem (senior thesis), 1 summer internship in immunology, over 1 year at Ivy in genomics lab, no publications, 1 poster presentation Awards/Honors/Recognitions: received undergraduate research grant from Beta Beta Beta (biology honors society) Pertinent Activities or Jobs: undergrad genetics tutor, current job at Ivy, internship Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help: expert in Next-Generation Sequencing technologies Special Bonus Points: 2 of my recommendations will be from faculty at Ivy - one helped me write my SoP Applying to Where: UNC-Chapel Hill, UPenn, USC, NYU-Sackler hoping to find 3-4 more...
  23. Thank you for your responses mop and maggiemay! The fact that you know someone who got accepted with my GRE score (or around my score) is very encouraging! I plan on looking into the program a little more, but will likely apply
  24. Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew the average GRE/GPA of admitted students to UNC’s BBS Program – more specifically, the Genetics and Molecular Biology Program. I can’t seem to find them anywhere and there is a faculty member there I am very interested in working with. I glanced briefly at the submitted results page here and the GRE scores seem to be mostly in the mid 160s for both verbal and quant. Does anyone know if this is the norm? I don’t have the best scores (157V, 159Q) and am wondering if I should even apply. Thanks in advance!
