  1. @happyland did you apply anywhere else? I would love to see your work!
  2. sorry, the two year track for graphic design.
  3. Stephen, I applied to three schools last year...Yale, Cranbrook, and MICA. I was interviewed by the first two, accepted by the second, wait listed by the first, and rejected by the third, all with a portfolio teetering on the edge of what could be considered "graphic design". I wouldn't sell yourself short. If you are passionate about teaching and making it will show through in your statement and portfolio. Most schools are looking for applicants whose views and ideas of what design is challenges the common understanding. Why do you want to teach and how will going to _____ institution matter? Just wanting the mfa isn't enough and shouldn't be(NOT questioning your desire or drive). I would apply to a mix of the top schools and the not so top("off the top") schools. Regardless of the privatization these top schools do give out money, not full rides, but considerable amounts and award financial aid. It is two/three years of your life, a hefty weight on the resume, and an experience that I imagine to be really invaluable despite its monetary label...Getting the teaching jobs at the universities where the students have the most drive and the most excitement(speaking from experience of being stuck in a state undergrad depart...lets face it the students really make the institution more so then faculty and facilities, but it is a balance...getting off point, but you know what I mean, right?) usually garners a degree from the same. Good luck, David

    Yale wait list.

You think that's a good or bad thing...6-7 spots you would think it would have been sorted out by now.

    Yale wait list.

Anyone hear back about yale's wait list for graphic design or any other program. Deadline for final notification mentioned in my email is Wednesday. I sent an email last week and I was told they would know around the "8th or so..."
  7. Anyone get any news from yale regarding wait lists? I'm starting to get nervous...
  8. Still waiting to hear from yale graphic design...I honestly was expecting this to be over by last week, but now I'm getting nervous...I have a little over two weeks until the final deadline that was mentioned in the email. Is it a bad sign that this is taking forever?
  9. Lucia, Is this in regards to yale graphic design? If so how did you come about this info?
  10. what about Yale's GD waitlist? Im getting anxious...
  11. Anyone hear from yale graphic design wait list or know anyone who had?
  12. In the email I sent Yale I just reinforced the fact that in my eyes yale is and will be the only place for me to develop as both artist and designer, so on, and so on. I have an offer from Cranbrook, but didnt mention it at all. In my eyes at this point in the game you want to convince the committee that you are fully committed to the idea of Yale being the only one. Its like dating i guess. If you tell them you have another date to the dance then, "well see ya later I didnt really want to go with you anyway. Have fun with "so and so"". If that makes any since. I would just brown nose the hell out of them, but in a classy intelligent way. Hope this helped and if you need more info let me know. good luck to you as well! d
  13. what are your tactics for navigating this thing called "wait list"? I have to notify yale if I would like to be placed on their "short" wait list. Now in this email what sort of rhetoric should I use? Should I act that I believe in my deep down in my soul that Yale is the only place for me and the thought of somewhere else is...Or should I use my offer from cranbrook to possibly speed up my process for the better? I could see how Yale would return the last situation with a, "that great to hear, we wish you the best of luck, Thank You", but it may be wise. Im completely oblivious to this and was frankly blindsided by their decision to wait list me. I truly do believe that Yale is for me down to my core, but I dont want to blow my chance this time around. Im making a deposit to cranbrook(1200) but I am prepared to lose that for yale, but im lost and filled with mixed emotions...
  14. wait listed by yale.... I have decided to go to cranbrook if Im not removed from the wait list, but cranbrook requires me to make a non-refundable deposit of 1200(1000 for studio and 200 if I live in a dorm) by sunday. This is really nerve racking as both schools are my dream schools but bloomfield isnt my dream town...I really fell in love with yale and new haven while up there. Im filled with mixed emotions now about whats going on and it is hard to articulate. Does anyone have any experience with yales gd waitlist and what this entails? How large is it and what are my odds? Will I know fast or will it really trickle out into May(may 15 being the deadline for notifying me). I guess things could be worse.
  15. I had my interview earlier today and had somewhat of a similar experience. I was interviewed by six faculty and then meet with two graduate students in their first year(after prelim). The portion with the faculty was an hour long. I brought 10 posters consisting of a mix between those sent in online with my original portfolio and others that where developed after my submission. The first part of the interview seemed like a heavy critique/light interrogation of two poster/banners. At one moment I rebutted with a pretty heavy/aggressive defense of a project and think that may have either helped or hurt(who knows). The faculty did seem to fire off many questions and at moments did seem to talk over one another which was somewhat difficult to navigate, but I tried and hoped I managed to do well enough. After that we moved through the work and they asked questions here and there and listened to my explanations and background on the projects. I didn't get to discuss my statement in depth with them as they were busy reacting to the work in front of them. The next portion of the interview consisted of a more in depth discussion on the program itself, how it functions, and what the goal of the preliminary is. This, I found was very important as their wiki site doesn't do a very good job at explaining the courses and the trajectory a student takes. After the typical interview stuff the staff exited and the students entered. This interaction was a lot more casual and not much is really needed to be said except the students were extremely nice, offered great insight, and answered every question I possibly had in more detail than needed. I will have my answer this week hopefully sooner than later and will keep everyone posted.
  16. In new haven now any else interviewing on the first?
  17. No just one, graphic design. I'm sending an email now, but as for the phone call who do I address? How do I put it? This is really weird as I wasn't technically wait listed either.
  18. So I received a letter from Mica letting me know I was NOT admitted then this morning sent a email congratulating me "David Wise" twice on my acceptance. They also included details and information on visiting days as well as both financial and procedural details. What do I make of this? Should I email the admission director or call on Monday?
  19. I too(sorry to spam) received acceptance to cranbrook 2d and have found myself in somewhat of a logistical conundrum because of an upcoming interview and cranbrooks notification deadline. What day did you interview? I would love to see your work.
  20. I was just accepted to cranbrook for 2d design and they want a notice of acceptance by April third, but this is too early. I have an interview at yale on the 1st and won't know from them until the 6th, should I send a polite email asking for an extension or is this bad form? I don't see any other option really.
  21. I applied to the graphic design department. I'll be returning home(from an interview at cranbrook) and will check the mail then. You would think we would recieve an email as well...
  22. So did anyone else not hear from mica today? I was sent an email mentioning they would make all final decisions by today...starting to worry.
  23. Interview at cranbrook for 2d design in 1.5 hours eating breakfast now. Really nervous and excited. Couldn't really sleep last night ahhhh!
  24. So I have an interview at cranbroom tomorrow and yale In two weeks. I have a large number or 50x70 posters and some smaller screen pro Ted work how should I move this stuff and the. Hang it? Tubes or would the curling be a problem?
