  1. VCU! Plus, doesn't richmond have a ton of ad agencies? Good for summer internships!
  2. It is decided, yale! Hope this frees up a spot for someone at UCLA
  3. Woah - that's awful! maybe contact those schools and explain, maybe they can put you on the waitlist?
  4. Apparently it is somewhere on the the 23rd, 24th, or 25th of September, with school starting on September 26th!

    UCLA ACCESS?

You may be on the waitlist. Shortlisted folks have until April 15th generally.
  6. Does anyone know when grad orientation is? Does it differ by department?
  7. woooooooo!!!!! If you email me, I may be able to hook you up with some folks who are leaving their apartments/email introduce you to some folks that can help ya out! PM me and i'll give you my email. Oh, have so much fun in Baltimore!! It's such a good city. First order of buisness here should be to get yourself a Brewer's art beer and cheeseburger to celebrate!!!
  8. Hmm. Define 'doing nothing special' like - working on art for themselves, occasionally showing, and holding down a whatever job, or just not making art anymore? I'm curious about this. Not in a snippy way.. genuinely curious!
  9. Well - I got the answer from the grad folks, it DOES come out of your stipend unless your school covers it. So they deduct it before they cut you your check, which comes in three disbursements (one each quarter)
  10. Louise - check out UCLA and Calarts.
  11. Yale acceptance. Oh my god.

    Los Angeles, CA

Any advice on good neighborhoods around UCLA for grad students? Am I absolutely insane for wanting to pay between $500 and $700 for a room?

    Baltimore, MD

Bring your car - you won't need it all the time but it's sooooooo nice to have.
  14. Ok speaking of UC's, does anyone know if you can put your stipend toward your "professional supplemental tuition"?
  15. yale interview was pretty rough. can't wait for this to be totally done! good luck to anyone heading out there for an interview!!
  16. Are you planning on visiting any time before April 15th? if that second year is a sure thing, I am like.. so.. absolutely there. I'm going to email Caron and ask what the deal with second year funding is. I'm trying to keep it cool/not get too emotionally invested yet in case it doesn't work out (like, if there's no 2nd year funding I can't take on ~52 in loans, not with my pre-existing ones from undergrad, you know?) but damn it's such a cool program and everyone i've talked to is amazing, i love what's going on in LA right now and the faculty just seems super involved with the program but also actively working on their own things, like Cathy Opie has a pretty good show up at Regen right now...
  17. Ptsd - yeah, it was foudation center. I think capers (maybe?) posted it a few pages back. Might be on their recent posts in their profile. I got my official admit letter from the school of art for UCLA, full tuition, non resident compensation and a 18k stipend for the first year. Unreal. Totally freaking unreal. Unsure what the deal is with the second year....
  18. Oops - that wasnt supposed to seem defensive, sorry if it came off that way, i actually agree with you! Also, i have heard it used in that negative way by painting professors. Always has bugged me, since illustration is equally important/interesting to me.
  19. I didn't mean illustration in a pejorative sense, at all. I was thinking more along the lines of fine arts illustration which yes, can exist for commercial purposes, but also can exist as art outside of that. ( Audrey Kawasaki, James Jean, Mark Ryden, and Nick Iluzada are good example of people who would do 'fine art illustration' and I would actually categorize Dzama there too. Personally I feel the only difference between Jean and Dzama is the Zwirner representation for Marcel) Perhaps a post-bacc year would be good?
  20. It took me about 3 weeks to get my letter from the department after my access admittance, but even then, it said that it was "recommended for admission" so the letter sort of pre-dated the access acceptance! but it seems I was processed super fast. I think it's because I applied for one of the fellowships.
  21. Ten of swords, have you thought of going into illustration?
  22. I think awards are going out soon-ish about financial aid/merit awards for ucla, a friend got a phone call from a professor
  23. If you are (hoping/maybe) attending a school in the same state you currently live in you may be able to get money from your delegates. Google ' [state] + higher education + financial aid" and it'll usually bring you to the state's site. Also, there are scholarships that come out of delegate and senatorial offices. Examples: New Jersey http://www.hesaa.org/Pages/GrantsandScholarshipsDetails.aspx New York State http://www.hesc.ny.gov/content.nsf/SFC/Financial_Aid_Programs_for_Graduate_Study_in_New_York_State
  24. Ooh, tough choice, your work must be really awesome! Joan Waltemath is so cool, though.....
  25. Most accept applications for the second year, and nominations can usually be achieved through talking to your program director or your undergrad. Also, undoubtedly, there are people looking for Fall 2014 and beginning their application processes now, and I wish I had known about some of these. So, I don't think it is pointless to begin a list.
