  1. I emailed Pittsburgh. I'm on the waitlist. For any lurkers who still haven't heard back, email Christine Metil. They have a new admissions director so (I gather) things are moving differently this year.
  2. Hi! I'll be at IU, too. I found an apt/roommate on craigslist and I'm quite excited. It's in walking/biking/bus-taking distance. Not close to the noise and in an area I generally like (spent last summer in Bloomington). My roommate and I have a ton in common. It's just enough room for me. Hopefully, I'll be moving June 1. I'm so happy. The program is a dream for me, an absolutely perfect fit. (Also - after living in NY/NJ for 30 years the rent is amazingly affordable.)
  3. Although I'm definitely 100% going to Indiana, I still haven't heard back from Pitt's Slavic Lang & Lit program. At what point do I ask what's up? I applied, so I'd like a decision even though it's a terrible fit and I'm definitely not going.
  4. I don't want to think about other options yet!
  5. Other than Russian, I mean to study the Western Slavic group. I'm a heritage Polish speaker with a Slovak father. And I'd like to learn Czech also. I'm starting to get antsy. k
  6. So.... who heard from Indiana? Tell us all about it. Did you check out petersons.com for stats, cml? I can feel the news is on its way. Will I have a future? I don't know. k
  7. Exactly. Not sure why I had to look at these statistics either. I really think I'll hear from Indiana this week or next week. So... in a matter of days, my future will be decided. I can't handle it!
  8. Hi Ian. Here are some stats to check out: http://www.petersons.com/graduate-schools/university-of-chicago-division-of-the-humanities-department-of-slavic-languages-and-literatures-000_10033276.aspx (UChicago's Slavics program admit info)
  9. Welcome, spicyartichoke! Congrats on your acceptance. Where else did you apply? February is suddenly the longest month!
  10. Congrats on your acceptance! I hope I hear some sort of good news soon. In the meantime, trying to keep busy.
  11. My only response so far is an Illinois waitlist. What if that's the best I can do? Without any other news, I'm more sad than anxious. K
  12. I've been waitlisted for the REEEC MA at Illinois. So that means more waiting.
  13. Waitlisted at Illinois. So I just keep waiting.
  14. Woohoo! Congratulations!!! Such awesome news!
  15. Why would they send such an email the very day the application is due?
  16. So - Illinois contacted me about items missing from my FLAS application. I did not fill out a FLAS application originally, but they have everything now. The FLAS apps were due today. Maybe it was just a courtesy notification for everyone who applied to Illinois. I'm not sure how to read the email. I am on edge simply because of this possibly meaningless contact. Anyone else receive an email totally void of useful information?
  17. Huge research universities are usually eye-sores, but I am very fond of IU's Bloomington. It's lovely there.
  18. Waiting... waiting... waiting. So what are you guys up to?
  19. ^ I'd like to hear thoughts on Albany, too!
  20. Just now, I sent some feeler questions about late applications for UIUC. I fell in love with the library there and spent a day with the Slavic collection last year. I should have sent that application as well as the one I sent for the REEEC MA. I know I can get almost or possibly all necessary documents by the end of the week if it turns out I'm able to apply. Does anyone have experience with this - late applications and hoping for wiggle room? I feel like such a terrible student suddenly, trying to hand in a late paper! But I've noticed other library schools have some variation of a rolling admissions policy. Or am I deluding myself? All best, K
  21. Super huge congratulations! (Every post on this thread is so exciting.) Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it one of your top schools? Run a victory lap either way! - K
  22. Another quick, but related, question. When you apply for a dual degree program, you need to be accepted by both departments. Does that mean that one dept can accept you while another does not? I'm too tired to think this through, so please excuse me if this is a totally dumb question.
