  1. The same agony tomorrow would be horrible.
  2. Based on the Google Doc, it seems like some people are already getting notifications!
  3. Noticed that on the Soros website, the timeline moved from deadline for applications to interviews (bypassing the notification phase in between); wonder if this means anything???
  4. The criteria to include separate statements for BI and IM have been included in prior solicitations (including the 2013 + 2014 ones), so I would not worry about the headers since winners have won without. I think the idea of the two being separate means that you've clearly made the case for both independently somewhere within the essay (of course, if it is bracketed, all the better). Essays are generally only rejected w/o review if they fail to follow basic formatting (12 size font in body, 10 min for ref, page length requirement, etc.).
  5. Yup still editing drafts right now. I struggled quite a bit through the first statement.
  6. Is anyone else applying for Soros?
  7. Hola, I can only speak to my experience in biological anthropology, but I was able to get into MA and PhD programs fine with a background in psychology and biology (and minimal anthro coursework). If you are able to show consistency in what interests you (and your SOP provides a narrative detailing that turn to anthropology), I don't see why your application would be excluded on basis of not having majored in the field; the burden of proof, however. is probably greater. That said, I find that at the PhD level, some schools are just more open to taking students from nontraditional backgrounds than others, which you can note by looking at current graduate students.
  8. Definitely the Romantic period (early-mid 1800s).
  9. The area would be imaginal/depth psychology, and there are researchers pursuing topics on this (e.g., RD Romanyshyn at Pacifica); programs focusing specifically on this area are probably not many, and I don't believe the one at Pacifica is funded. However, if you are interested in theories underlying the field, I'm sure there's always a way of integrating them into your study; similarly, pursuing a PhD in clinical psychology does not necessitate that you become a clinician.
  10. @Vader Was Framed--sure! Any discipline's fine. PMed. @JoeyBoy718, I think you misunderstood the purpose of this thread. The point was not for me to swap SOPs with you then submit it, but merely for us to trade for editing purposes. In which case, I don't think there's a need to limit to a specific discipline.
  11. I'm applying to interdisciplinary programs intersecting psych and anthro and would be happy to edit/revise SOPs for others, if they're willing to examine mine.
  12. Much thanks for the advice, folks! I am definitely trying to tie together my past and current interests in the SOPs. I changed the list of schools around a bit because I think I am better fitted for (and therefore stand a better chance at) programs/schools/environments that aremore interdisciplinary. I am also applying to some MA programs as back-up. Good luck to everyone that's applying!
  13. Hello! I've graduated already and am applying to PhD programs in psychological/medical anthropology; my research background was in the neurosciences, so I wonder about my chances. Major: bio & psych GRE: 163 V/161Q GRE subject: 91% Publications: 3 first-authors, in prep; 1 may be submitted before apps are due Presentations: 5 oral presentations/4 posters at various conferences (one international, two national, etc.) Years of research experience: 2-3 years Others: Various research awards and academic honors; graduated cum laude; penned an honors thesis; board member for several campus organizations I have no formal training in anthro. I had initially intended to pursue a PhD in psych, but now find that my research interests are better matched by those in anthro and that I would likely benefit more from training in this field. Much thanks for the advice!
