  1. Hi kdavid, So sorry for the delay - just saw this. I'm studying late medieval/early modern history with a focus on the development of witchcraft in England and Germany.
  2. Hi kdavid, I applied to Yale's history MA program last year and was admitted for this fall. I did not do well on the GRE's quantitative and or verbal portions but did well on the written (like you). I definitely think you should apply, and you have a good chance of being admitted! Will you have strong letters of recommendation?
  3. Hi jamc8383! Oh no, I will be studying Medieval history (specializing in witchcraft persecutions and parochial education), but I love modern French literature/history. If given the chance, I would love to study that time period at some point in my life. Are you studying modern French history?
  4. Currently re-reading Thomas More's Utopia-- absolutely enjoy reading this! For leisure: Les Misérables by Victor Hugo and The Lady of the Camellias by Alexandre Dumas (fils).
  5. I found my studio; it's such a relief to finally find a place to stay!! Does anyone need any help finding an apartment?
  6. Your research sounds very interesting. Have you ever considered examining the role of the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire? They were also a Christian minority that (very surprisingly) sustained their racial identity despite many decades (even centuries!) under Ottoman rule and were adamantly against assimilation (evident in their religion and socio-cultural practices).
  7. I am also looking for a place. If your landlord has any rooms available, I would like more info as well.
  8. I would also appreciate it if someone can answer Greenarg's question. Hi A55--I just sent you a PM.

  10. I just received my rejection letter from UPenn, so now I can officially say that I will be attending Yale for my MA! Whew, what a long, drawn-out process! I must say that I initially felt really disheartened and discouraged after being rejected from 3 out of the 4 schools I applied to this year. Did anyone else feel like there was something academically wrong with them? Thankfully, I understand that I should not take rejection letters so personally as there are a plethora of reasons--aside from academic merit--for rejections. Anyway, I am thankful to have joined some of the discussions on the forum and I wish everyone the best of success!!
  11. I received my rejection letter in the mail today. A big CONGRATS to GuitarSlayer!! That is such a huge accomplishment!
  12. Here! I will be studying the magical elements (both natural and demonic) that were taught in Medieval parochial schools.
  13. It makes me sad to read this because I was in a similar position in regards to the GRE. I did really poorly on both the verbal and quantitative sections but I decided to apply to schools that best fit what I wanted to research (which happened to be top 10 schools). I was accepted to my first choice school which also happens to be a #1 ranked school on the U.S News and World Report rankings (which doesn't really say much but I thought I should mention it since we're discussing this specific list). So, I really, really hope that your GRE score was not the only reason why you did not apply to top 40 schools.
