  1. Did you submit your UT Houston GSBS app before the 12/1 deadline? Mine was delayed until the 6th because of an Embark error preventing a recommender from uploading their letter, so I think I got put in the "regular" pile and not the "early". :-/
  2. As a guy, I'm planning on suiting up for most of it, probably pack a more casual outfit for non-interview days. I figure it can't hurt to be overdressed, only under.
  3. Congrats! Hope I get one too, though I applied to the immunology program, so who knows their timeline...
  4. I did! Thanks for the info. Side note: their app system is antiquated and terrible, they really need to update it.

    GPA

Inflation is a real problem at private institutions. Both my 2-year school and my state school were not afraid to give out C's, D's, whatever you earned; even with a curve, the brutal classes like orgo would average in the C range. Awesome graphs for us stat heads: http://www.gradeinflation.com/
  6. Minnesota MICaB interview invite! Choice of January 30th-Feb 1st or Feb 6th-8th.
  7. Look at you! Congrats!
  8. This is my second go-around on this thing...I overshot last year, took grad classes this year and applied to lower-tier schools (a lot of public Ivies). Listen, I had a 1.7 GPA my junior year in undergrad, A ONE POINT SEVEN (was an astrophysics major for a year, what a bad idea). And my first two years were at a community college. Almost everyone on this thread is more impressive on paper than I. Conclusion: there's plenty of reason to hope.
  9. Arizona ABBS interview!!! I'm on cloud 9 right now, seriously. Offered choice of Jan 23-25th or February 6th-8th. I chose the first weekend tentatively. Guys, if I got an interview with my stats, all of you will too!
  10. I feel like one should only do an MS if your work is paying for it, like mine is, and go part-time. Otherwise I agree, your time is better spent working full time, not in school.
  11. Hey user Chimeric Phoenix, we met at ASH last week, Transplantation poster area! Congrats on your WashU interview, that's so exciting! Hope I also hear some good news soon.
  12. I've been lurking this thread for a while, but thank you pstar for a great anxiety-reducing post. I finished my last couple of apps yesterday and have been suffering the subsequent "Did I remember my GRE/transcript/correct SOP/remind a recommender?" It's a great reminder to calm down and let the bureaucracy sort itself out, as we literally have no control. *channels his inner Chris Traeger* Hope to hear good news from everyone soon!
  13. Greetings all, I'm weighing some options about my future and would appreciate the vast insight of the forum. I'm currently a research tech at a small private university on the East Coast, and have started taking Master's classes part time with my tuition benefit. However, I have been interviewing for employment at a nearby Ivy League university that would pay approximately 40% more. I would eventually like to go into a PhD program in the biomedical field, but need some input on timing. I have completed 8 credits at my current university for a 4.0 GPA. If I take the new job, I would like to use their benefit to take classes there. Only catch is I have to be accepted into the program; I had a ~3.0 GPA in undergrad and 600V/720Q/4.5 GRE score in 2010. I'm wondering if I should focus on trying to get into a PhD this round with my 8 MS credits (likely 16 credits after classes in the fall) and turn down the job, or accept the new job and try to get into their better MS program and then try for PhD next year or later. Would more credits make enough of a difference in PhD admissions to turn down the pay increase and Ivy research experience? Or would I be better off with the extra cash/experience and take the risk of not getting into the Ivy MS program and be stuck with 8 credits for future applications? (Or pay out of pocket at to continue my current program) Any thoughts would be well appreciated, this is proving to be a difficult choice for me.
