unexpected help

If prospies that stay with you always get in, then it must mean that you've built up a lot of good luck from living there full time! Yes, my acceptance was added to the school's admission check page somewhere around 10 p.m.

Hi Ruud9. First, congratulations on your acceptance! I am in a very similar situation (accepted to MS + PhD, but nothing said about funding yet), and waiting to hear back from my program coordinator. You definitely need to contact the program about whether or not they are providing funding throughout. A good program will typically fund you for the entire thing (MS and PhD), because you are technically being admitted as a PhD applicant. However, we all know that budgets are tight right now, and sometimes that doesn't happen. You absolutely must check with them to see. Call your program coordinator, and if you are unable to reach him/her, send them an email.

unintended application
-
It can be held up depending on whether or not you applied with official transcripts. If you applied with unofficial transcripts, then you have to send (and they have to process) official transcripts before they ever get around to sending you your official letter.

Maybe, maybe not. I received an acceptance out of the blue from the school that I'd had no contact with since I submitted my application. On the other hand, I've had two for one of the other schools, and am still waiting for their decision. Very anxiously waiting...

Don't worry, it's better to get the rejections out of the way first. It will make the coming acceptances that much sweeter.

Good Sign, Omen or Hallucination - All Are Welcome!
RubyBright replied to Eager's topic in Waiting it Out
Oh dear, I saw that too, Eager. I think people are just so on edge over the stress of filling out their own apps that they can't imagine someone else doing it for them! As a note, is that how you spell jeez laweeze? I always kind of thought it was "jeez louise," though I do wonder about the identity of Louise... For another omen, I found a pair of shoes I've been wanting marked down 60% - in exactly the school colors of the school I was just accepted to. I don't know if that's an omen that they'll come through on funding, or that they won't, and I'll need every discount I can find! -

Maybe schools purposely make applicants wait a long time, because if they die of stress waiting to hear back, they obviously wouldn't have made it through the PhD process. If the applicant expires before ever reaching them, they avoid legal action and messy amounts of paperwork. /end tongue-in-cheek

Oh, okay. Sorry I misunderstood. Have you tried visiting the psychology sub-forum?

Good Sign, Omen or Hallucination - All Are Welcome!
RubyBright replied to Eager's topic in Waiting it Out
I'm growing some flowers, and the first one to bloom is purple... maybe an omen that I'll end up at the school with a school color of purple? That was my first thought when I saw what color it opened. Then I promptly laughed at myself. Soooo unscientific! -

Sorry, Iphi! I was waiting a good long while first, though, and I definitely feel fortunate to have the "problem" I now have! Good luck, and hopefully you too will be debating over schools soon.

Can't attend in-person interview... what are my chances?
RubyBright replied to RubyBright's topic in Interviews and Visits
Thanks everyone, I'm really hoping to go see the school once my doctor clears me! -
CONGRATULATIONS!

FIRST ACCEPTANCE! WHEEEEEE! ... Had to wait until this morning to freak out so that I could call the department and ask if "recommended for admission" really meant admitted.
-
I was invited to interview at one of my top choice schools, but due to circumstances outside my control - a serious health problem - I can't attend, even though I really want to. What do you think my chances are? I am willing to do whatever the department suggests in lieu of the visit, but I haven't heard back from them yet.
