Eager, shouldn't your son be filling out his college apps?
-
Yes... the school that was my top choice just sent me word, but it happened two weeks after the school that used to be my second choice started courting me. Suddenly, first choice/second choice don't seem so clear anymore...

Just got invited to interview at another school! My first reaction was to cry in relief. Hahaha! Stress, people. It gets to you.

Any human factors applicants out there?

Good luck! -
Wait, we can add that? Because I make a mean chocolate chip banana bread. So mean, it's nice.

I tend to get blank looks when I say, "Human Factors," which is often followed by either a.) them changing the subject, b.) them staring blankly before asking what that is, or c.) them pretending they know what it is, which can lead to unintended hilarity on their parts. -

Hahaha! Goodness, no. We're definitely in agreement on this one. -
Ouch. Sorry, Vincenzo.

I gave my boyfriend the enviable news that, though he hasn't had the chance to watch as an uninvolved participant while I was infatuated with someone, he now gets to watch the craziness and word-by-word analyses of messages from the academic apples of my eye.

Lewin, let's remember that everyone is coming from different circumstances, and with different expectations for the future. Of course your first priority should be your academic career/PhD if you're going to go into a PhD program in the first place, but I think there are few people on GradCafe who want to slack off on their PhD just to make money to live more comfortably. -

Grumpy cat should be our mascot, actually. -
I know a few people whose siblings are applying to undergrad right now. They're freaking out. They make me laugh, and laugh...

What about free-lance work, if you have a skill that can be used that way? I thought of trying to pick up some extra money when I have a free weekend. I'm assuming this doesn't fall under the "no job" ban that some schools have? -

I like that better than what I was thinking. I subscribe to the couple = 2, few = 3, several = 4+, but generally 5+.

The one interview I had, the professor told me to let him know if I hadn't heard anything in several weeks. ... What, exactly, constitutes several weeks?

Good Sign, Omen or Hallucination - All Are Welcome!
RubyBright replied to Eager's topic in Waiting it Out
No telling how people in our current departments or hoped for future departments would view our presence here, or how they would judge random comments made. Plus, for some, GradCafe is a place to let off steam or stress where they don't have to worry about professionalism, or things being permanently linked to their name. Not that I ever recommend posting something you wouldn't want anyone who knows you to see, but even if you're careful (or just plain uninclined to ever post anything that might reflect poorly on you), there is comfort in anonymity. -
That's what all of mine say. It would be nice if each school told you whether or not they actually change statuses, or if I'm just wasting time checking every day.
