Congrats to the Columbia and Princeton folks!! I also noticed an Indiana University-Bloomington acceptance (congrats, too!). Best of luck to those who are still waiting to hear news. Hang in there...
Thanks for these great ideas, everyone! Like most, I planned to write a personalized "thank you" note to each professor who helped me through the process (whether looking at my SOP, writing a letter of rec, or providing comments on my writing sample). I also considered inviting the LORs over to dinner, but will likely wait until after I make a decision.
Thank you all for the kind words!
I applied to the Ph.D. program as well. They may have reviewed the Ph.D. apps first (that is, those who applied to the program and for funding). If you haven't heard back yet, I wouldn't worry. I think that the program had two or more deadlines (December 15th and I believe sometime in early January). My guess is that they looked at the apps that Ph.D. apps that requested fellowships/funding first.
Hi there! Congrats on your acceptance! I also received an email from UCI's graduate administrator offering admission.
The email was not very clear about funding. It did indicate that we should hear back in the next week or so, however. I think I will contact Igler for more information.
Apart from waiting for mail delivery each afternoon, I've kept busy by going on walks with my dog, Millie, and baking. I've also formed a reading group (historical theory & practice) on campus. I may adopt playing The Sims though, based on some of the posts on this thread.
I had similar experiences while contacting POIs. Some replied within a day or so. Others took several weeks and some never replied at all. When I asked my advisors about this, they indicated a number of possible reasons. Some are simply very busy working on research or inundated with teaching/grading/advising. I was able to meet one DGS at a conference who remembered me from an email and apologized for failing to respond (busy semester). Like Vincenzo said earlier, "you're on their radar" - which is good.
Best of luck to everyone with their applications!!
