  1. This, and the certain influx of e-mails for early rejections, which clogs up their administrative staff and keeps the professors busy at their e-mails at an important time.
  2. I don't think you're alone... It's especially depressing when I wake up in Central European time and there are only a handful of us conscious. That's why you're likely to wake up with clutter from this guy.
  3. Many many congratulations! You're killing it so far this year!
  4. Blah blah blah political science speak blah blah blah. That's all I hear.
  5. I was even checking on my phone during a lull in my seminar today. Granted, our discussion of border regimes turned to digital borders, and I don't think anyone in the class had read (I was assigned another reading, in my defense)... But still, it's pretty terrible.
  6. I think that's reading as in literacy as in education.
  7. Let us know when you get official word. In past years this can mean one of two things: 1.) If you were nominated by the department, that probably means they expect to admit you or 2.) If you were nominated within the graduate school because of your statistics, it means you have a good chance but nothing is guaranteed (read: but it's likely)
  8. I didn't think you meant ill by it, or anything. I think we're all so tense. These next two (and four) weeks are going to be awful.
  9. I looked, and a few years ago they were sending as early as Jan 20-25. I would be beyond grateful if they decided to return to this policy and surprise us this week, rather than wait til next Friday (which makes sense from a reduce email influx perspective - though they can accomplish the same tomorrow). I do, however, wonder about their funding policies. What's with waiting until after the visit weekend? And does this adversely affect those who can't do the visit (e.g. this guy in Germany)?
  10. Do we think any schools will be making and breaking hearts today or tomorrow?
  11. Yeah I think I run out daily.
  12. Sending awkward I-don't-really-know-you cyber hugs to those facing disappointment right now.
  13. You should feel free to call them and ask when we can expect decisions. If the results page is to be believes, someone did this last year. I'd do it, but I'm in a different country.
  14. Hey now, we all have our ways of handling things. I keep all my e-mails that aren't spam in extensive folders. I recently reviewed my rejections from last year. Pretty unhealthy...
  15. Congratulations to those who have heard good news. To those who haven't, don't give up on yourself yet! Says the guy who after a three hour event expected to open his e-mail to an acceptance letter (even though they typically don't go out for any of my schools for over a week).
  16. From past years, from their website, and from admissions (I updated my CV).
  17. Yup, eager for their response.
  18. I don't know about your program in particular, but UIUC is the cream of the UI crop. This sounds like it may be worth pursuing, unless you have other options lined up. If nothing else, it's certainly a compliment from your POI!
  19. Ugh, I thought this might happen.
  20. Had a breakthrough in my current project. Maybe I will spend a little less time refreshing this page. Then again, maybe not.
  21. I was tech savvy and a musician before I started college. Ha... I can still design a web page like it's 2008!
  22. And don't pull a TMCB and delete all the data on IRToni
  23. Good morning, grad cafe folks! I hope today brings with it some good news for some of you.
  24. You might be able to find something bordering on affordable at US state schools as far as a masters program goes. The issue might be finding something less about methods and more about philosophy, though. Given your interests, you'll have to consider whether you really prefer doing it from the political theory angle or the political philosophy angle. You may have better luck finding MA programs in the latter.
