Undergrad: Bachelor of Law degree in China, GPA 3.8 Graduate: Master of Counseling Degree from Arizona State University, GPA 3.64 Research: completed a thesis and played important roles in a few projects. Experience: clinical counseling, higher education, management Applied: Johns Hopkins (Mental Health), Emory U, NYU, U Maryland, U Minnesota, U Memphis I was recently interviewed by phone by U Maryland. Have not received admission yet but thought some information is always good. I applied to their Public Health (PhD in Community and Behavioral Science) program for research interest match and the location (Baltimore). Anyone has experience with or has heard of the program? The most important thing to me is job prospect and being able to publish while in school. Is it good in these aspects? A secondary factor which I consider important is the influence of the program, since it affects employment further away from the campus. The school is about 10 years old. Is it known to people in this field at all? Thank you for anyone who can share some information!

I'm just looking to get some ideas about when I can expect to hear results if I am accepted into a particular program (guess the acceptances will generally be announced earlier than later) based on experiences from last year. Can someone share with me your experience? When do majority of the programs like to send out their decisions? I'm especially interested in knowing about the following: 1. I'm applying to PhD programs in public health this coming December to start in fall 2017. My focus is public mental health and my research interests include health service access and health policy. I'm transitioning from a master's education in counseling and have been involved in a couple of related research projects. I'm posting to get help with constructive feedback on my personal statement. Would appreciate the help from someone who has completed or is completing a PhD in public health. Can also give mutual feedback if you are applying like me. If you are or you know of some one who is going into public mental health, I would be thankful if they can help! I'm transitioning from a different field so my resources are a bit limited. Dear Gradcafers, Would like your insight. I'm applying this year for fall 2017 admission. I would like to ask for LOR from a professor with whom I'm conducting research. He is the PI of the project and I'm Co-PI. However I assume I'll be first author of the article if it gets published. Because I live far away from him, our communication is via email and mostly relayed by one of his assistants. Therefore he probably won't think that he knows me well as a person, but he knows my research interests, my work ethics, etc. The tricky part is that he is one of the professors that I'm applying to work with. We actually met the first time when I applied to PhD programs, which had unsuccessful results. We met when I went on campus for interview. Later I decided to do a project with him to increase my research experience. I was wondering your thoughts on me asking for a LOR from him? I'm not too worried about him not knowing me well enough in person because I assume he'll just reject my request in this case. My concern is this would come across as inappropriate request because he would know the other programs that I'm applying to (although I'm applying to professors all with similar interests). He is a rising researcher with growing reputation so I would like to give it a try. Could someone share your thoughts? PS, I did my master's in the US but I'm from another country. So less familiar about certain cultures and unspoken rules in American academia! Thank you in advance!

Has anyone heard ANYTHING back from the counselling psychology Program at UBC yet? If I'm correct, they don't have interviews so they may send out their admission/rejection letters a little late? If anyone here applied to this program before, when did you get notified by them?

Has anyone applied to this program and heard anything back? If I'm correct, they don't require an interview like most US programs do. So I suppose their results (both 's and 's) will come out later. Just wanted to see if anyone heard ANYTHING back from them. If anyone applied there before, could you share when you received their notification? Much appreciated!
