Hey everyone. I know it's late but I wanted to post this because there has been a lot of talk here about Hunter not giving any $.

Yesterday I received a scholarship that is two years full ride at in state tuition rates. They also offer supplemental funding outside of financial aid.

Not about me boasting I just want to spread the word...when it comes to hunter never offering $ ... Don't believe the hype!

I would totally avoid ANY loan.

If you have the money go for it. Or if you have someone else to give you the money...

Nowhere is going to give you a ticket fo any success... It is just your self and your work!

Easy equation: a) finish your MFA in golden school, then get a job to pay 100,000$ - 150.000$ back. Forget about having a studio and even time to focus in your work.

b ) zero debt. Studio, and time to make work... no need to pay back anything.

Same story all the time! Go where your clue tells you to go. But don't let 2 years give you 10 of headaches!

IF someone is giving you a full ride is because they want you: and they will treat you well.

That's my right brain opinion and previous experience w grad school .... And what I see on my own peers...

    Good luck!

TEM33056 got a reaction from DrF8 in Accepted to Hunter 2015?
I think a big part of it is that they have a reputation for being a highly competitive school for a very low tuition. That may be a part of the attitude the interviewer gave you. Hunter competes with schools that have 100k price tags. Even if you were to get a full ride at an expensive school, you may end up with loans for costs of living that are in the same ballpark as hunter tuition.

Plus, it seems relatively easy to get in-state tuition.

The Hunter interview seemingly went well. There were multiple interviews going on simultaneously, so there were various personalities involved. Some of it is just the luck of the draw. I don't think that it means you didn't do well. I think it reflects more on the interviewer. It sounds like the ones that didn't seem to go well had similar experiences so it might have been the same guy interviewing you.

I finally got my first result! Got accepted to MFA in Studio Art, focus on painting at Texas Tech University. I haven't seen anyone here had applied to the same universities as mine. However, I thought it is good to share the news that might be useful for someone some day!
They offered  me 1000 $ scholarship that qualifies me for in-state tuition in the amount of 2500 $. Plus TA that pays 8250 $ for a year.

Thanks for all the happy words peeps. I've declined at UW, Burren and Oregon thus far- hopefully to someone on this forum's benefit. Withdrew my SMFA app and I'll withdraw the rest this week...I am so looking forward to checking "accept" and signing my funding letter tomorrow; this strenuous process is over.

I also want to repeat what Czarina stated...hold out for the package that's best for you and often times it takes a couple rounds of the application game. Money is a factor for most and not at all for some. There are many fully funded opportunities out there and not carrying debt after grad school will give you that much more freedom to do your work.

I have spent the last half hour crying and shaking. Accepted to University of Michigan with full tuition waiver and generous stipend. Can't believe it.

Good luck to everyone this week. The interviews, the waiting and the nerves. Thus begins the start to the BIG finish. These next 2 to 3 weeks are important. To all that try and might not pull off that brass ring, know that we learned a lot through the process and can always try again. Salute!

    Hello all,

I'm sitting here typing in Philadelphia, flew in from Wyoming.  I've just had my interview with the Tyler painting faculty and talked with the grad students.  The whole experience was really great.  The interview was nothing like what I thought it was going to be and everyone was super friendly.  The interview was a conversation with the faculty concerning my work.  They didn't even ask me why I applied there.  It was a very wonderful breath of fresh air and honest.

It is great because I had a skype interview with VCU that I think went okay, but it proceeded to ruin my day anyways.  They ask some tough shit.  Like I said, it went okay but sheesh...also it was super stilted and formal with them asking scripted questions and writing the content of the interview by hand.
If I am accepted there, I intend to visit and get a feel for the people and the program.  Fingers crossed.

I also got to speak to another who was interviewing here, who also skyped with VCU.  He had the same experience, "great and all, tuff questions, the thought of screwing up ruined the rest of the day."

Tyler seems wonderful, the only issue that seems a little murky is the funding and assistantship situation.  They said if I am accepted more will be explained concerning how that works.  Other than that, this place seems awesome.

Congrats to everyone thus far and good luck to everyone for future interviews.
