Congrats to the Chicago admit!

Congrats to the UW admits!

I think this entire thread finally puts to rest the question "is human behavior rational"? xD And checking your email at 3am is not that irrational, I got an email from a school around that time. At this point, I just want all of this to be over. We literally just started our semester, and I'm already feeling so exhausted. And I still have a thesis to write!

I use Outlook, so it makes a little noise each time I get mail. I'll be on my bed reading, then hear the noise & bolt up to check.

CONGRATS! That's fantastic!

Congrats!

Congrats to Cornell admits!

I'm really sorry. It's rough. In the end, you only need one place to let you in. The cycle is just beginning - we've still got time left. And even if you didn't get into Duke or Berkeley, there are still a number of great programs that you could get into that produce fantastic scholars. Hang in there!

I've always erred on the side of formality in terms of referring to my professors. I'm at that weird place where if I'm talking to current grad students about a prof, I use the professor's first name, but when I talk to the professor it's always "Professor _". I don't know - I think the calculus for professors is different based on their level of perceived authority. I was reading a gender studies paper that talked about some of the difficulties of being a female prof, and one of the things that stood out was that students tended to be much more informal/disrespectful towards female profs (I'm wondering if that is also the case for profs of color).

See, this is how I know you're really Russian - you corrected my spelling! When I was a kid, I went to this weekend Russian literature class for 8 years (immigrant parents), and when I got back my essays, there was usually more red ink than black ink on the page!

EDIT: wow this thread moves fast. Congrats to everyone who has received good news today. And don't despair if you haven't yet heard anything.

UCLA has started sending out emails.
-
I also claim a Berkeley too excited!

According to the results board for last cycle, it's an email telling you to check the website.

Just got an email from Rochester! I guess obsessively checking my mail at 2:30am actually pays off sometimes ;P
-
Congrats to the Chicago and NYU admits!!! So, looks like no UCLA or Michigan today.
-
I think the fact that the process is so drawn out makes it really rough. I'm sure you guys will be hearing good news soon

I have never wanted a Monday to come this badly xD

Thanks Cautious, these are great!

If you're quantitatively oriented, how extensive/theoretical is their methods training? Do quant people usually go to other departments (eg statistics) to receive their training, or do they stay within poli sci?

Congrats to the Penn state admit For the questions: 1. Couldn't care less about location. I'd go to Mars if it would help me get a better placement in the future. Part of this is because I haven't got a significant other right now, so I can afford to be flexible. That said, some of my top choices "happen" to be in relatively nice locations, so I might have factored it all in subconciously 2. My degree is not in Political Science. It is in a discipline very far removed from poli sci (natural sciences & my U doesn't allow double majoring). However, I'm not sure if it would be accurate to say that my "background" is in that discipline, because the major wasn't really my choice (financial reasons having to do with funding my university education). For all intensive purposes, I've invested alot more time learning poli sci than learning my actual major

Russian cartoons are delightful. Everyone's talking about Frozen right now, and I just want to direct people to the Soviet version of The Snow Queen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Snow_Queen_%281957_film%29)

Congrats to everyone who's gotten acceptances over the past couple of days I've developed a new morning routine this week: 1. Wake up 2. Check email 3. Check Gradcafe Results Board Unfortunately, my university is on break right now, so I don't have nearly as many distractions as I would like ;P

I can claim one of the Duke admits as well. So incredibly relieved.
