  1. I, for one, have started leaving Italian news running in the background and try to read a couple articles a day in Italian in preparation for g-school language exams. I also will probably need to take a Macro course, so I am looking into that in the meantime.
  2. Did anyone receive any Georgetown mail today or on Saturday? I am in NYC, so mail from DC shouldn't take that long.
  3. I am thinking tonight of my old college town I am dreaming of days that are flown Of the joys and the strife of my old college life-- Ah, those days were the best I have known. http://www.alumni.cornell.edu/cornelliana/songs/mp3/Cornell%20University%20Glee%20Club%20-%20Songs%20of%20Cornell%20-%2009%20-%20Alumni%20Song.mp3
  4. Sure, have a blast, here is the honest-to-god HKS rejection letter sent at 6:32 PM
  5. Huge congrats to those who got in! Not too sad because I have some great other schools to choose from. I just would have liked the option of going back to Boston. Well, looks like the odds of going to DC are pretty good at this point. Come on SAIS, show me the funding love...
  6. Off the top of my head Pros + Consistently ranked as the #1 or #2 terminal degree for those wishing to pursue a professional policy career + Within walking distance of tons of major FP institutions in DC (e.g. Brookings) or short driving/public transport distance (e.g. Dept of State) + Near a Metro stop (unlike, say American) which means you can live in cheap areas of DC as long as they have also have Metro stops nearby Cons - Expensive (34k per year vs, for example, 25k per year at American or 31k at Yale) - Bologna is damn expensive (I think >40k per year)
  7. Wowzers! I'm into SAIS! So, HKS, what do you have to say about that? In other news, it looks like Missouri is increasing the spread against Cornell.
  8. I had said I was ok for 1 year in Bologna and 1 year in DC, as I am an Italophone. My email just says that I will start in DC. Does anyone's email say that they will split your time between DC and Italy?
  9. IN!!!! Did anyone's email say anything about funding?
  10. That's my point. I am not sure why I made that note, but according to the HKS website, there are no minimum GRE/GPA scores.
  11. http://www.hks.harvard.edu/degrees/admi ... -questions Hmm. I dunno where I got that info from.
  12. According to my notes, they require a minimum 700 Q score. That's all I could glean. ***Tip off in 17 minutes for the Cornell v. Missouri game*** I don't expect a win, but I do expect a good showing. Let's Go Red!
  13. Snail mail? Though I would love to know sooner rather than later, I sort of appreciate not having the "admits get an email first, then waitlist people, then rejected people last" situation. I enjoyed coming home to a big package in the mail from American. So, antediluvian. So, awesome.
  14. Long story made short, It seems there was an issue with processing my application, but, because this situation was brough to the adcom's attention by me, they will look at my file and decide today. This processing problem may have disqualified me for funding, but we shall see. If there are any GW admissions people reading this thread, I will say that while I am displeased by this situation, I appreciate that the person who I was able to reach is attempting to resolve it promptly.
  15. *wraps fingers on table* No one is picking up the phone... So, benefit of the doubt: they meant to check the box "admitted with huge funding package but instead someone erroneously clicked "app incomplete", right?
  16. I am deeply confused. My admissions decision says: And yet, the ApplyYourself system says that my application has been complete as of early/mid February. Huh!? So, angry phone call later this morning, eh?
  17. Pssssssh. At least we know what two KSG applicants can do to keep their minds off of decisions tomorrow.
  18. It's so weird to have March Madness fever when your alma mater is an Ivy, much less two years in a row, especially when your school is neither Penn nor Princeton (the perennial Ivy champs). For an Ivy alum, winning the first round would be a HUGE victory. Go Big Red! Down Missouri! Cornell: an Ivy brain and a Big 10 heart.
  19. Right. For most schools, I used a variation on my statement of purpose (i.e. what my professional/academic background is, why my goals are, how X school plays into said goals). For WWS and HKS, they asked for a personal statement (i.e. give us an insight into your personality by means of your previous exposure and long term goals related to public service). These are two very different types of essays if you ask me. It is good in SoP to express your personality via your writing style, but with personal statements, you need to be much more forward.
  20. *fingers crossed* I think out of my remaining schools, I have better odds of getting into HKS than JHU-SAIS or Georgetown-SFS, and worse odds than at GW (definitely better than 50% probability) and LSE (which seems like a shoe-in at this point); I give myself a 40% probability of acceptance. It places less emphasis on having worked abroad, than my two rejections, WWS and Fletcher. It has a leadership fetish and my leadership essay rocked socks, if you know what I mean. Still, I am most worried about my "commitment to public service" essay as I think it was the weakest of all my essays. I only used it for one other school, WWS, and I didn't even get waitlisted there. Boy would I love to live in Boston again.
  21. Jeez, how many Obama Philaburbia people do we have here? I was out in R4 running a field office.
  22. I doubt GW's system will crash because it uses a big name application management system (Apply Yourself) unlike Fletcher, which seems to have hired a non-standard company to manage its files.
  23. I called. No cash. Blerg.
