  1. Congratulations on your publication!  :)  Though a word of caution: Many conferences do publish their panel papers; nevertheless, the publisher's reputation is crucial here. I have seen a growing trend in which conference papers have been published by Peter Lang, Cambridge Scholars Press, and the like. The fact that the conference you mention publishes all papers (both bad or good ones) is a red flag to me -- this assumes that there is no rigorous peer-review monitoring. These kinds of publications do not usually count toward tenure considerations. Of course, it certainly wouldn't hurt to have it listed on your CV. Remember, nailing a publication in a rigorous, peer-reviewed book or journal is the ideal!

    YES

  2. 18.  Heard from 1, accepted by that 1 school.

Uromastyx, were you accepted to UT Austin for philosophy or something else?  Congrats either way.

Sorry, I crashed the thread. I am in German Studies (and one for film). I should have stated that.

Congrats to you as well. :D

  3. "If you could be any infamous dictator, who would it be and why?"

But seriously, know yourself and know the program. That is, think about your CV and SOP. Ex:

What are your interests? Why have you chosen this program? What are your career goals? I see you're interested in X, could you elaborate on how that interest developed?

These types of questions are really all that you can/should prepare for. You could get any kind of crazy question, or simply something you weren't expecting.

    Know yourself, know the program.

And be sure to have a couple questions ready for them.

  4. I've never been down-voted before - I feel publicly shamed!  Anyway, I really was kidding, just trying to find the humor in what I know to be a stressful situation.  But as I said - it can only be good news so congratulations are in order and I hope I didn't offend anyone.

i just gave you a bump on your previous post :D

  5. For those particular programs you will want to shoot for a Verbal that is at the very least at the 80th percentile. With those GPAs it will help to be closer to 90th+. (And don't bomb the math!)

GRE is always important, but your entire application will be weighed.

The real questions concern the rest. Is your CV stacked? (Most aren't.) Do you have a strong writing sample? (This is critical.) SOP? LOR?
