Evernote! I'm still new to the class note-taking capabilities, but I have the smartphone app and I'm loving it. Especially love the document camera feature--SO helpful when you want to take a picture/obtain an electronic copy of a physical document but don't have a scanner nearby.

Waitlisted - waiting for your school AND everyone else's
lemony replied to RubyBright's topic in Waiting it Out
Finally mustered up the courage to call the admissions office. They replied that as far as they know, no waitlist meetings have taken place and they are still processing offer responses from admits. Surprising that it is taking this long, as in the past this school has sent the first round of waitlist notifications by late April. -

Still no waitlist update for me either! -
I would actually beg to differ on NYU Wagner not having a student community, of sorts. While the lack of true "campus" and such may ring true for the larger NYU community/undergrad life, NYU Wagner struck me as very cohesive and interested in the wellbeing of their students. NYU Wagner students I spoke to seemed to be very close with their fellow classmates, and often go to happy hours and networking events with students at Wagner and other NYU schools such as Stern and GSAS. As for the quant material, it seems up to the student to decide how much quant they want to take--Wagner does have a Finance Specialization that seems just as quant heavy as any standard Finance/Management specialization would/should be, but if you were to veer away from the Finance/Management courses I can see how the curriculum would end up less quant-focused. YMMV.

Completely agree with you, Kadisha. I only started this thread to see if any other people on the waitlist had received notifications. At this point I'm not really looking to try and guesstimate how many waitlisters will get accepted since it's probably very counterproductive!
-
Thanks for the input and support everyone. Hopefully they begin crunching class yield numbers and giving some waitlist news soon.

Just wondering if anyone's received word on when we can potentially expect an update. A little afraid to call the Admissions office, since their letter was very adamant about not contacting them. Thanks!

Davis is a great town. Rent is more than affordable and the people are incredibly friendly and helpful. Definitely not boring; there are always things to do. Bring allergy medicine--having an arboretum with many plant/flora species comes with a price (for pollen allergy sufferers)!

What are the deadlines for accepting?
lemony replied to 123seekay123's topic in Government Affairs Forum
NYU Wagner's is today as well. I checked with them a few weeks ago regarding deadline extensions and deferral requests, and it seems they stopped accepting those quite some time ago (surprisingly not too long after they notified applicants of decisions!) -

Congrats all, and thanks for the support still waiting on my WL school over here (probably won't hear any updates for another couple of weeks) but I'm putting in a deposit at another school just in case--both are great programs so all in all I'm feeling good. -
MPP/MPA: Public and Private sector versatility?
lemony replied to StarkResilient89's topic in Government Affairs Forum
It's uncanny how similar your background/stats are to mine! FWIW i got waitlisted at Columbia and i'll most likely be attending Wagner at NYU. I also would like to work in private sector/govt relations possibly, and NYUW's program/classes/capstone fit the bill for the skills I hope to gain in pursuit of this career track. Good luck! -
I wouldn't say the information was "new", in any way, but it felt good to hear it from an alumni & current student (as opposed to just reading the school website). I was asking about the HPAM track specifically, with the hopes of entering the healthcare consulting industry. They mostly praised the career center for setting students up with internships (a big plus) and the classes for being directly applicable to work done in their fields (also another plus). I wouldn't rely too much on the career statistics and information on the website since it may not be representative of the entire population at Wagner, but I can say that creeping on a few LinkedIn profiles and reaching out to students/alumni in my desired fields/companies was very helpful. I would definitely encourage you to do the same for your field!

I already put in a deposit for another school, but I'm willing to wait and see what happens with my WL school. While I am happy with the school whose offer I accepted, I would be very happy to receive an offer from my WL school. Both schools are in the same geographical region so I could wait until summer (although let's hope I don't have to... Knock on wood!)

Congrats all who received acceptances off the waitlist! That's amazing news -
What field are you looking to enter specifically? I can only speak for NYU Wagner--as a recently admitted student, I was pleased to find that the alumni and current students I reached out to were immensely helpful with providing me additional information about the program, career prospects, and other alumni/students I should connect with. From what I've heard, the community at NYU Wagner is pretty tight knit and the career center does a great job of helping you with internship and job opportunities. Additionally, the courses at NYU Wagner are directly applicable to the responsibilities used in a variety of fields (even alumni in the private sector agreed). The community and overall "fit" of NYU Wagner has been a pretty important factor in my search, so I was happy to find that the alumni & students I spoke to reflected this impression.

Loving the comprehensive analysis, steepingtea. Thanks so much for posting. I agree with many of your points, as the current students and alumni I've reached out to have echoed similar sentiments regarding the strong sense of community at Wagner. It's a huge plus for me personally, as I'll be moving from across the country. Can't wait for fall! Thanks again for posting your thoughts.

Thanks Kadisha and kingofqueens! I applied for the MPA program. The WL letter didn't have any specific information, but the admissions blog said April at the earliest. Seems likely that any updates will come in late April or early May.
-
Out of curiosity, by when do admitted students have to put in a deposit/accept offers? Just want to know so us waitlisters can ballpark around when we might receive updates. I know in previous years they have even extended it to May.

Exercise for me as well! I've become hooked on ballet-style barre workout classes. They are so fun, challenging and take my mind off of work and app stress. And I'm getting closer and closer to my goal of Michelle Obama arms! Yay biceps!

Working on the Hill is a pretty specialized track that requires, for lack of better words, starting at the bottom. If you have no prior experience with a MoC (Member of Congress) office, you most likely will have to start as an intern or staff assistant. Many MoCs specify in job listings that they prefer to hire from their district or applicants with ties to that state/district. Also, since Hill positions are prestigious in their own right, many positions end up going to internal hires (from another branch or committee staffers, etc). While it's not easy, going to school in DC will probably make it a little easier for you, but keep in mind paying off student loans/achieving work-life balance may be very difficult given the fact that Hill jobs involve very long hours and low pay. However, it's a very fast-paced and exciting environment and many Hill staffers go on to higher-paying, private sector lobbying/govt relations careers later on. I don't think prestige will play a huge factor--in general they tend to prefer prior Hill experience (internships) and skills to do the job correctly. Good luck!

Haha me too! Although my WL letter said "April at the earliest" for notifications so I'm trying not to hold my breath. Is it bad that I secretly feel a little more hopeful/happy when I see on the thread for my WL school that someone is declining their offer? -
I haven't been able to find a Facebook group either, my guess is that they will create one closer to or after April 15th. I'm not able to attend Admit Day, so please do post your thoughts so we can live vicariously through you?

lemony replied to RubyBright's topic in Waiting it Out
My WL school seemed to not want any additional materials/info beyond a simple confirmation whether or not we would like to remain on WL. Emailed them last week and they replied to confirm they would keep me on the WL. Hoping for some good news as well, as they will begin re-evaluating WL candidates like myself next week.
