  1. Looks like Stanford is notifying for Comp Lit or did I only realise this now?
  2. Since we've been betting so much here and there. Have people gotten any more acceptances or rejections? (It has become clear to me at this stage that I am living my life largely through other people's experiences; so please share your story.)
  3. You got into UChicago and Brown and complain about a 'bare' CV? I don't think so.
  4. It's nonetheless Notre Dame's incredible skill at hauling in funding from outside.
  5. PS: Notre Dame has incredible funding packages for English. A friend of mine is on their normal stipend + an internal fellowship + an external fellowship = 30K a year!!! And that's all the advertising I will do here...
  6. This is all great, but school's can't actually check whether you applied to the programmes you listed. You could say that you applied to Harvard, Yale and Stanford in all three apps, when in fact you only applied to one. How will they know?
  7. Oh thank god I am not the only one who left it blank. And congrats on all your acceptances! Do you know which one you'll choose?
  8. I left that section blank in my application. One prof I spoke to, told me to apply to other schools, too, but that was never the plan. And if I got accepted into another school, even if it's Yale or Princeton or Columbia, I wouldn't have gone. So I left that section out. I always wondered whether it would count for or against me. Yes, they can't see who they are competing with and the Chair might remember me mentioning that this wasn't about doing a PhD all over again, so they should (in my opinion) deduce from that blank section that I really don't want to go anywhere else. Of course they could punish me for putting all my hopes in one choice, but it shouldn't be a deciding factor in the application.
  9. Go on, schools, just take AAAALL the time you want. We will just, y'know, sit around here and wait. We don't need to know where we're going to live in the fall or whether to look for a full-time job for the next year and root out the job market. Or tell mummy, we're gonna move in with her for the next 12-18 months... (For Sheldon, this was sarcasm)
  10. Congrats, RogerMexico, that's such a great programme.
  11. galateaencore, where did you apply to?
  12. Sorry you're pissed off now. But I thought it would be shittier of me to feed false hopes, and, no, I have no idea about your other places. I friend of mine applied to Notre Dame last year and didn't get her rejection until April. I think it's pretty shitty to string people along, that's all.
  13. Oh! I think that all the people to be interviewed next week have already been notified. Sorry! Notre Dame takes its time to notify people. Sorry!
  14. Vavasor, have you heard from Notre Dame? I am here at the moment and I think they are interviewing people next week. Which programme are you applying to?
  15. Porridge, it 'espresso shot' the highest title you can have?
  16. Jan Ziolkowski for sure, and maybe David Damrosch and Gregory Nagy.
  17. We shouldn't have made this about stats; we should have made this about money! Betting on or against yourselves and taking from and putting money into your own piggy banks.
  18. Yes. It's my dream programme.
  19. I don't think Harvard interviews though? Some programmes do it without saying so on the website, or only interview some candidates but not others. This happened to my friend's cohort member. He was interviewed; my friend wasn't. But this was a different department.
  20. So did anyone get accepted today? Got flowers or the like? I hope no uni was cruel enough to reject you today?
  21. I'd love to go into publishing/editing. I am the editor of my uni's humanities journal and I am really enjoying it, so it would be nice to get paid for it, lol. I am a language buff and wanna learn and professionally use as many as possible, so no matter what job I am going to end up in, I'll keep ploughing away at them languages!
  22. I should perhaps post that in the 'Plan Bs' thread, but I am no longer freaked out about acceptances/rejections, so I am here for the fun now. True, I have my moments where I just really wanna find out, but if I don't get in, there is this degree in Berlin which I never finished, and now I really feel like it: French, English and perhaps Akkadian, Sumerian and Hittite. We'll see...
  23. So, I still haven't heard anything from my programme, but I have been in contact with grad students from my own and other programmes and they have been so nice and helpful that it adds to my overall very positive experience of Harvard.
  24. Also, this is totally not what the thread was originally about.
