  1. I've been thinking of getting a bag from http://www.seagullbags.com/ You can customize the color of everything (even the thread). My buddy has one and says they are bombproof. They are pricey but I carry my bag everywhere and am thinking of it as an investment. Everyone has a Timbuk2 or Chrome these days...
  2. The MBA is the best investment I have ever made. It will run all the programs you talked about just fine. I also use Word, Excel, and SPSS (at the same time) with no problems. The battery life is sweet and the SSD is super fast and you dont have to worry if you drop it. I have a 128gb and have had 2+ years of files, 2500 photos, etc and have not run out of space. Buying a computer with a CD drive is like buying one with a floppy drive a five years ago. The only thing i would recommend is to max out the RAM. I have 2gigs and wish I had more. Not sure what they come with now as mine is the pre-backlit keyboard series.
  3. I sent a nice, hand written thank you and a $10.00 starbucks card. I think a card alone would have been enough. Emails are weak and should be avoided. Spend the extra money on very nice stationery, I recommend Crane & Co. It will not go unnoticed.
  4. Haha...I have lived in ABQ my whole life. In short, the land of manana thing is true. The hookers and very scary areas...hmmmm...not so much. Like ANYWHERE, not just cities, if you go looking for problems (and hookers) you can find them, but they are not on every street corner. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Seattle, WA

Hi there! I'm considering UW and looking to relocate to Seattle. Thank you for all your suggestions. Here are my questions: What are areas to stay away from? What are the real estate "scams" that go on? (In my hometown people renting places will say all types of things that are just not true and any local living there would know). I think that's it for now. Any other information is always helpful.
  6. Hi all! I grew up in ABQ and currently go to UNM. Those are all good neighborhoods but can be more costly for students and tougher to find rentals. There are not a lot of apts in that area but you may be able to find a room. You are thinking LoboVillage. That is an undergrad off campus dorm. If you are a grad student and consider living there, good luck! I think university studios is a complex. Berger and Briggs has a lot of stuff too around campus. Some are nicer than others but most are walking distance. It just depends on what you want. The place west of UNM, off MLK are pretty cool and a short walk. South of campus is the "student ghetto." It is mostly houses and pretty affordable. Let me know if you have any other questions.
  7. Hi faculty! What are your suggestions for attire during a recruitment visit? I was leaning towards more casual, but some people are suggesting dress shirts, dress pants, etc. Thoughts???
  8. I currently live in ABQ. Finishing UG work at UNM and leaving the same time you are coming. Let me know if you have any questions? Feel free to PM me.
  9. Subfield: American! And yes, I had a brief interview last week.
  10. Just FYI: Accepted to A&M! Got the email last week...just found this site now.
