SAIS application for Fall 2013
deadhead47 replied to rawpunkgirl's topic in Government Affairs Forum
After writing a 500-words essay, and right before submitting my fellowship application, I realized that I wasn't qualified!! ;( "W.W. Norton & Company 9/11 Commission Report Fellowship - Established in 2005 by W.W. Norton & Company, publisher of the authorized version of The 9/11 Commission Report, the fellowship supports two students, one American and one student from a predominantly Muslim country, who will pursue careers in promoting international understanding and preventing terrorism." "one American and one student from a predominantly Muslim country" Wasted a lot of time and effort. No wonder I didn't get the e-mail............ -
2 of my friends who applied to this program (with a strong reference letter) haven't heard back yet! let's be patient!!

SAIS application for Fall 2013
deadhead47 replied to rawpunkgirl's topic in Government Affairs Forum
It was for all non-US applicants, not just for a selected few. -
When I took an interview for SAIS Bologna, the interviewer said I will get the result on mid-March. For Gtown MSFS, my roommate had a chat session thing and the admin told him that the results are gonna come out around 15th till the end of March. I think I saw 18 of March somewhere in this forum. Not sure about MALD though!

Online Course for Microeconomics
deadhead47 replied to deadhead47's topic in Government Affairs Forum
@rudy2012 Thank you so much for your info!! It was really helpful @av260987 All right! I will still keep looking for an online course that I can complete in this semester--like Phoenix or UCB but cheaper--, but I will let you know! -
I see! It took me about a month. The admission rate is over 57% (2011), so you probably don't have to worry about not getting in. And yeah, Elliot should be early-mid March. Let's hope for the best!

Online Course for Microeconomics

I see...thank you!! Is it completely online or do you have to go to the community college to take exams? Also, can I enroll anytime of the year? Please let me know! -
Online Course for Microeconomics
deadhead47 replied to deadhead47's topic in Government Affairs Forum
@rudy2012 Which community college do you use?? @understatement700 I see! Thank you! I might do it at Fort Hays after all. If I have to go to UCB to take an exam, then I can't do it...although I live in California Berkeley's too far (Phoenix, on the other hand, is doable but too expensive). -
NYU SCPS has rolling admissions. I submitted my application on the 5th of January (my professor submitted the reference letter on the 21st though) and heard back on February 13th. My friend submitted his on the 14th-ish of Jan. and heard back a few days before I did. My roommate submitted his application a week or two later than us and still hasn't heard yet. For SFS, my roommate had a chat session thing yesterday and the Admin guy told him that they will release the results in mid-march with scholarship info. I think most of other schools are the same as well. Let's hope for the best!

Online Course for Microeconomics
deadhead47 replied to deadhead47's topic in Government Affairs Forum
@MPPgal @awphenomenally Thank you for your responses! I will look into Coursera. It seems that there is a class I might be able to enroll prior to the Fall 2013 semester. https://www.coursera.org/course/steinmicro (Apr 8th 2013 (9 weeks long)) My only concern is that I'm not sure if "a Statement of Accomplishment signed by the instructor" is enough. I asked Georgetown SFS and they said that as long as a course is 1. accredited and 2. gives you a grade it doesn't matter which institution I take it (either online or not). Do you think Coursera passes that criteria? @understatement700 I checked the website but it seems like I have to apply to HFSU and be enrolled in an online class. I appreciate your comment but I might just take an easier option of enrolling in UCB, UP or Coursera. @spacezeppelin Thank you for your comment and TBH that was my initial plan. The problem was that when I decided to enroll in a course I already missed the deadline. That's why I'm doing it online but I guess it's more flexible. Also, since I'm an international student who's graduating this year I have to go back to Japan during summer for visa renewal. -
Hey guys, Because I have never completed a Microeconomics course, I have to take an online course before enrolling in a graduate school. Initially, I was looking into the University of Phoenix website. http://www.phoenix.edu/courses/eco/eco365.html However, recently I found out that UCB offers a great online course for Micro as well (and it's a lot cheaper!) http://extension.berkeley.edu/catalog/course495.html I was just wondering if any of you have ever completed an undergrad-level online course (for Micro or other)! Would you have any advise like 'take an UCB course because its highly regarded' or 'Phoenix is more expensive but easier', etc? Just for your info, Phoenix is about $1,700 + text book while UCB is merely $900 + text book but I'd rather get a better grade than saving some extra $1,000. Please let me know what you think!

My roommate applied to that program and hasn't received the result yet. Better to wait till March!
-
Yep! Let me know how it goes. The result comes out in about a week or two!

My roommate had an interview for MPIA. They are gonna ask you: Why straight from undergrad? What is one word that describes you? How do others around you describe you What is one goal that you have accomplished? What would you do if you were the prime minister in Japan? What would you do if you were the president in China? Do you have any questions? I thought there were more but can't remember. Interview goes for exactly 20 min. Good luck!

SAIS application for Fall 2013
deadhead47 replied to rawpunkgirl's topic in Government Affairs Forum
I didn't even get the e-mail (idk why, i guess i'm an int'l student and they thought their fellowships weren't applicable for me?) -
Good luck! Honestly I'd love to get in even if I don't receive any financial support but still it'll be really nice
-
I wasn't so I just put €40,000 and requested €10,000. they won't give away the full tuition.
