  1. Hi! I just thought I would throw out a new program that fits with some of your interests (especially backlash). University of Notre Dame is just starting their PhD program in Anthro and they have fantastic faculty working on a variety of issues - but many with a focus on war/violence/peace (Carolyn Nordstrom and Cynthia Mahmood) - in that realm there is also a joint PhD in peace studies and anthropology at Notre Dame. I've started this year (a bit early) in the joint program and love it - brings many of my interests together. YOu can apply to both the joint and just anthro and that gives a bit more possibilities of getting in. From the Anthro: http://anthropology.nd.edu/ from the peace studies side: http://kroc.nd.edu/ funding is great and support from faculty so far has been really impressive.
  2. Hi Sangi - A new up-and-coming program is a joint PhD at the University of Notre Dame in Anthropology and Peace Studies. I'm currently in the program and love it (looking at intersections of gender, violence, truth-telling and reconciliation very broadly). The Anthro department at Notre Dame has a handful of folks working on issues of violence - and some specifically on gender and violence (Carolyn Nordstrom, Cynthia Mahmood) - both who have worked in South Asia and Southeast Asia. Here is a link to just Anthro: http://anthropology.nd.edu/ and to the joint PhD: http://kroc.nd.edu/ you can apply to both
  3. I just emailed asking for an expected timeframe for results today. I noticed that people saw a change in their application status, which still has not changed for me.
  4. I haven't heard a thing from them either. I'm still waiting to hear from multiple schools. I'm assuming all rejections at this point.
  5. Could someone tell me if its correct to assume rejection from JHU if I haven't heard anything from them yet? I've seen acceptances, rejections, and wait-lists.
  6. Just so you don't limit yourself to international programs there are several good MA-only programs in the US, many that come with funding: University of Colorado University of Denver American University, Public Anthropology (might fit well with your legal anth route) Though I agree that you should go ahead and apply to PhD programs as well - I don't think re-applying years later does anything but show your continued interest and dedication to the field - and you never know what might happen.
  7. were you notified that you were on the wait list at UPenn - I interviewed with them, but have not heard anything since (rejection or acceptance), though I know that others have received both. I've been assuming its a rejection that is just late. Just curious if they actually notified those on the wait list or not.
  8. I had an interview at BU last week - haven't heard more from them since. I can't say definitively if they had sent out all of their interview requests last week or not. I am sociocultural.
  9. I had an interview a little over two weeks ago (jan 30) and expected to hear from them this week, but no word yet. They said they would let me know in about two weeks. hopefully early next week? is it a similar experience for you?
  10. first time posting, here. A question for those of you who have had offers: did you send thank you notes to POI or others or respond in anyway? I've only had one acceptance (cultural anth) and am waiting still on the majority of schools (several interviews - no rejections...yet). I just don't know what the best response (or whether to respond at all) is, especially if I'm waiting to see what other options I might have and am still in the decision-making process. I did send a quick note back to the AD who sent the acceptance out. Thoughts?
