  1. I've been feeling the stress of applying for quite some time now, but I feel like this past week has been the most stressful. I was rejected from one of my schools that I was pretty confident that I was going to get into. The Adcom chairman and my POI told me that I should have no problem getting into the program, but here I am. I have 3 schools left to hear from, but right now I'm not feeling so confident. I'm trying to figure out a backup plan, but a little voice inside keeps telling me to not give up on the other 3 schools. I just wish that they would let us know already.
  2. I would say the Neuropharmacology lab. Experience is a huge factor that grad schools are interested in
  3. I know someone who did not get admitted to PhD programs because their research was varied and the schools felt as though she couldn't commit to one type of field. I had a lowish GPA from undergrad and was rejected from PhD programs my first application round. I instead went to get my Master's and gain more research experience. Most schools will put more weight on your ability to perform well in a Master's program, since they are graduate level courses, and less on undergrad GPA and GRE scores. Good luck!
  4. Has anybody heard from Drexel University's genetics program?
  5. From my experience when I first applied for my PhD two years ago, I received my rejection letters before the acceptances had gone out. I was waitlisted by one school and then rejected after they received confirmation of who was attending out of the people that they had sent out acceptances to. I was accepted into a MS program to the school I currently attend, despite applying for the PhD, and I was not informed that I had been accepted until late April. I think that there is an order that they go in and first reject all of the people that are not well-suited for the program, and then go through who will be waitlisted or accepted. I find that larger schools, despite having earlier deadlines, respond much later than smaller schools.
  6. I completely understand your frustrations. I was rejected from all 5 of my schools the first time I submitted my apps. One of which was after an interview AND after someone on the committee called me asking what labs I would like to rotate in. I was heartbroken. One school admitted me into their Master's program, despite applying to their PhD program. I would suggest getting your Master's and then re-applying. You would also have an "in" at the school you do your Master's at for their PhD program. I know how hard it is, but hang in there!
  7. Ugh I'm in the same position. Mine's do in April, so I'm doubly stressed out. I feel ya
  8. @sophiak What program are you applying to? As some people on here mentioned, I was rejected the first time I sent in my PhD applications, and I was absolutely crushed. I was accepted into a Master's program and I am reapplying for PhD this cycle. Stress and anxiety are normal, but if you don't get in this round, you can either go into a Master's program or work in a related field, and then reapply as a stronger applicant. As someone with generalized anxiety disorder, I found comfort in meditation, talking to close friends, talking to my undergrad advisor, and yoga; maybe you could try one of those to ease the anxiety? Your life isn't over if you get rejected; there are other ways to improve your application and be a re-admit. Don't give up! I know that at the moment it seems scary and daunting, but remember that there are people that care about you and will help you!
  9. I'm a Master's student at Jefferson too, and I haven't heard anything from any of my schools yet either
  10. I'm a second-time admit and I think that it's way more stressful this time around. I have my email open and refresh it constantly.
