What is the possibility (is there any chance at all) of a person being accepted into a PhD program if they have no publications, have never presented at a conference and have no academic teaching experience?

I've never used foreign text in my writing until now, so I'm not exactly sure how to quote and reference it. Should I translate the quote into English in the text? Or should I have it in the original language and have the translation as a footnote along with the citation? Also, should I translate the title of the book into English in the citation? I'm using the Chicago Manual of Style. I've tried looking online for the rules regarding foreign language quoting but haven't found anything helpful. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

I agree with the above. It's really about what you want and what you think will make you happy in the long run. If you want to apply to Harvard and Princeton, to give yourself those US options, then take the GRE. Have you taken any of the practice tests yet? If not, download Powerprep and take one. It's only a few hours and you can get some idea of how well you'll do on it (without the extra studying). You can judge then whether you think it'll be worth your time or not. In the end it could be better to have applications at the three and see what happens when offers are made and make your decision then than it is just to have an application at Oxford and not have the choice.

I only applied to two schools this round. I got rejected from one and am assuming rejection from the other. My back plan: to look for work (anywhere) and try to make my application stronger for next year. I'm planning to apply to more schools next year, in the hopes that I get in somewhere.
