  1. Mine is monthly and I think that's the most common pay schedule. Still don't know "when" during the month.
  2. If you really like research or related duties I would say go for Purdue. But that's a long road to the degree. You will be way more prepared than a MS graduate but, the question is, are you ready not to join "real" world/job market for 5 years or something if your final goal is not to join academia/research and development? Anyway, USC is really expensive..
  3. What are you intending to do after your degree? PhD and MS are really different. And most of all: what's the funding situation?
  4. I need to take 6 credits during summer as stated in my contract. I hope they are about thesis/research. In the Fall I think I'll have 2 courses each of 3 CR, 1 Seminar (mandatory) of 1 CR and 1 (fundamentals) course of 4 CR. Can not eliminate one of the courses with 3 CR otherwise I will fall under 9 CR valid for full time status. So, total 11 credits! I think I'll need to pay 2 hours extra.. Same for Spring I assume, except seminar (not required). Fall 11 --> 11 CR Spring 12 --> 10 CR Summer 12 --> 6 CR (thesis/research) Total 27 CR I'll miss 5 credits for the Fall 12 and graduate when? End of Fall or Spring? Thank you so much!
  5. Hi everybody! I'll start a MS with thesis option next fall and I was wondering if anyone can clear some things to me. The minimum credits amount for graduation is 32. I'm on a assistantship covering 9 credits for Fall/Spring and 6 for Summer. This counts for a 24 credits total each year. 1) Do I need to pay every credit in excess each semester? 2) Is thesis usually counted in the total amount of credits? 3) Is that right to assume that a MS lasts 1.5 years at this rythm(Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall)? Thank you so much!
  6. I was referring to stipend. I don't know how the US system works. Since I will have a 1750$/mo, how much will it be net after taxes? Thank you!
  7. For what you're saying Clemson seems to be great both for your research interests and for the possibility of working in the lab. If the economical offer isn't too different I would choose Clemson, but that's only my opinion.
  8. Thank you! Do you know how much is after taxes approximately? I booked a room in a 3BR/3BA at around 500$/mo (I needed fully furnished) near campus. Is a car strictly necessary or not in College Station?
  9. UCB and Stanford are very long shots. Since your GPA is not stellar and you have no pubs I would suggest to retake the GRE. A total of 1220 is really low for a PhD at a top school. You need at least Q>770 to boost your app and have a shot at those universities. Why California only? There are top schools around the country and the UC system is not in good shape..
  10. I didn't hear anything from Gatech, it's really strange. I sent them emails but they didn't answer. I have chosen to sign with TAMU, but since I paid a fee I want an answer! What are you doing in Atlanta?!
  11. Hi! I will be at TAMU too this Fall! Aerospace Engineering!
  12. Gatech is sleeping.. I signed for TAMU! College Station, here I come..
  13. That's exactly my point of view. I think to go back twice a year, and let my parents come once. I'm also planning to host my girlfriend twice, maybe helping her paying the airplane fares with my salary.
  14. It's done! Texas A&M, see you in the Fall!

  15. Is anyone heading to TAMU? I'm waiting for Gatech, but if the response it's negative or it doesn't come out in a couple of days, I will go there.
  16. Go for the money and the heart. UW is always a great program. What are you waiting for? Prestige doesn't balance them at all.
  17. I'm on a 21k RA. But parents can cover at least travel fares. But I was pretty referring to free time being on a RA (when you don't work, etc.)
  18. I hope so! Is that a normal way of offer assistantship? It sound strange to me that they split my coverage..
  19. Hey! I think I will attend TAMU in the fall, I'm a MS student and I'm 22. I was thinking about living on campus and I don't have money for a car. I will be on a RA with 1750/month. Is it livable? Any suggestion?
  20. Hi guys! I'm from Europe and I have been accepted in US with a 12-month RA. I was wondering how many times do you travel back home (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break.. etc). Thank you!
  21. Hi guys! I received an offer, I'm a non-resident applicant and in the letter it is stated: "This offer is considered a 12 month, half time appointment, and makes you eligible for medical insurance; plus, resident tuition will be paid for you. The assistantship saves you from paying the nonresident tuition ($6600 or more per year). Instead you are charged resident tuition and your advisor pays this for you (up to 9 hrs each fall/spring semester or 6 hrs Summer." What does this phrase mean? Do I need to pay some kind/partial tuition or not? It's unclear! Please help
  22. I've been accepted to 3 schools. No one with funding. I'm already enrolled in a Master's program here in Italy.. I think I will obtain my MS and then reapply for PhD in two years, hoping economy won't suck as now. Really no way to let my parents pay 25k$ a year while the actual cost of my MS is only 2k per year. Yes, of course it is not a top ranked program, but it costs me nothing.
  23. Ty Daria! What about if I haven't received support?
  24. I've been accepted to two programs that didn't specify in their letter anything concerning 15 april as a deadline.. Does it mean I can accept later their offer? Schools Are wvu and UCDavis.
  25. On the admit provisions it says i need to take an english exam on sept 14, but it sounds strange since my toefl is way higher than the minimum requested (96 over 80). Any idea? Thanks.
