  1. I think even attending a state school within the particular demographic you mentioned (individuals with minimal savings, not from a wealthy background, no job etc.) is tough. I was accepted to the Univ. of Maryland with a RA scholarship (8k) and while it is not an Ivy league school it is still pretty expensive given that I will have to pay out of state tuition. I just cant afford it when you add in moving and living expenses. I have also been accepted to two California State Universities and while tuition is around 15k for two years (which is pretty amazing) - it will still be tough for me given that I will be a full time student (no job) and not living somewhere where I don't have to pay rent. So, I will need to take out loans for both tuition and living expenses . For me to survive in Los Angeles and pay my bills (car, undergrad loan, etc.), and rent i- I will need to borrow around 1,800-2k. That's at most 48k in loans for two years not to mention tuition and undergrad debt! My other options is to interview for the CalSWEC stipend (which I will do later on in the month) and have it be offered to me, cut down on expenses as much as I can, and/or work during the weekend. I have already emailed the chairs of both CSU depts. to see if any RA scholarships are available for students, both replied that none are given as of now but there could be an opportunity to assist faculty down the line. I'm just wondering how people will financially support themselves if they are in the same boat as me. I know I will make it work but It would be so nice to have a philanthropic long lost fairy abuelita..
  2. Got accepted to Univ. of Maryland today!!
  3. Thanks for the info! I applied after the deadline which may be why you received an email. I will call and check- Thanks!
  4. Hi! I also applied to CSULB- the last and only email I received was on 1/15 stating that my application was received by the school of social work. My application status states that my application has been forwarded to the school of social work for review. When did you receive an email from CSULB saying that you wont be notified until June? Are you wait listed or is your application in departmental review? Thanks, appreciate any help!
  5. I have an interview next week. I was told that they will begin the first round of interviews the next couple of weeks until mid April. They should be contacting more applicants during the next couple of weeks. Good Luck!
  6. I received the same email as well- my "pending" status hasn't changed. :/
  7. Ohhh shoot you're right , I meant that didn't apply for Advanced Standing. So has anyone heard any news from PSU that applied for regular standing?
  8. Has anyone received any word from PSU who didn't apply for early admissions?
  9. Yeah I got the second email as well. I thought they were just one on one interviews? I also have never heard about a written exercise. :/
  10. It's my first choice too! Sending ya a message
  11. I think people will start getting them pretty soon - I think you will get one especially since you have already interviewed and have been accepted to CSUF!!!
  12. Right after that email I received another email telling me that I've moved on to the next stage and to come in for an interview.
  13. CSUN applicants: Did anyone receive an email from the admissions coordinator at CSUN stating that their application is complete and will now be forwarded to the Admissions committee for review? I received a similar email on 1/30, only tonights email stated that if an applicant advances to the next round they will commence interviews beginning mid March through April. Was just wondering if any CSUN applicants received a similar email tonight!?

  16. I applied to CSUN and CSULB the first week of January and there was also a mix up :/ I think they were cleared mid January. I've only heard from CSULA, they sent an acceptance letter around 1/16. Ughh waiting is killing me!!
  17. Does anyone know how CSULB & CSUN lets you know if you are accepted- through an email, phone call, snail mail? Thanks!
  18. You're welcome Sara! Sticking with the CSULA topic- Does anyone have any info regarding the MSW program at CSULA, or why they chose to apply to CSULA? Regarding the quality of the program (specifically CYWF concentration), the professors/faculty, field placements, cohort size, etc. Id appreciate any feedback . Thanks!
  19. Lychee Sake and lots of cycling- not at the same time tho
  20. Turned in my app. around the first week of January and I believe it was received and complete around the second week of January. Graduated from a CalState with a 3.01 in Sociology.
  21. I received and acceptance letter in the mail - I didn't receive an email.
  22. I'm sorry I didn't mean to!! I just really don't trust USPS - They delayed a couple of my applications!! I applied for regular MSW admission- and I put everything in 1 envelope for the program (MSW app/LOC's/transcripts) and I sent a separate envelope with another copy of my transcripts to Admissions. I'm sure they received it since you received confirmation from USPS.
  23. I sent my application in around the first week of January and received an email with application code on 1/11 and I also received an email on 1/14 from PSU admissions stating they have received my official transcripts. It does say not to call but maybe you can send an email just to verify that they received your app & you may also want to call admissions to see if they received your transcripts.
