  1. Second this. This wasn't my case, but I have heard the same in the past. They're flexible with transcripts and letters of rec. Things you ultimately do not have control over when they're sent.
  2. Handing my Burren application off to the USPS today. Then I'm done. Holy shnikeys. I think a bottle of wine is in my near future. Happy Friday, all!
  3. If you log into their apply.art.yale.edu thing, you can see the checklist and it says what's been submitted/what's missing there. I did not receive any email confirmation either.
  4. I did too! It's clear which shot goes with what though... If they want you, they want you. One small typo won't change that. The work speaks for itself.
  5. Cheers to that. Best of luck to everyone!
  6. I edited my post- did not mean to offend anyone and surely did not want to make anyone feel as if they're a slacker...slackers don't apply to graduate school at all. Just sharing my past experience.
  7. Good luck mama! I hope that you get in!
  8. Is this the only school you applied to?
  9. Applying to sculpture/interdisciplinary/fibers. www.ruthkburke.com
  10. Impressive. I agree with Moonjuggler- the r&d page is quite helpful in seeing the connection between your research and work. Your pieces are documented nicely and are anything but monotonous. Good luck!
  11. The book art/work is a great resource. Also, look at some recent graduates from the program...check out their websites and see the types of documentation they have. ArtForum Magazine may also be a good source. I'm not a painter myself, but I'd think you'd need to hang the paintings on the wall. In seeing documentation of paintings, I like to see the presence they have in a room, especially if they're huge. Look on Hyperallergic for reference too. Good luck...are you applying for Fall 2015?
  12. I would go with the earlier date, just to be safe. I also tried contacting them with no avail and submitted my application already.
  13. Err...Yeah I don't know if that's the appropriate place to discuss these things. Find an eloquent way to say you encountered obstacles and overcame them. Most people have had depression touch their lives in some way or another but I don't think admissions wants to hear about it. I don't know about the ADD either...a new researcher just came out with a study saying it's a made up disease (I am not saying it is or isn't nor am I minimizing the obstacles you've encountered) so I'd be careful to discuss that with academia. I've struggled with serious mental health problems the last 15 years and didn't find it necessary to touch on anywhere in my application- I'm an artist too so I could talk about it. Stay positive and focused! Good luck!
  14. Yep! I've submitted 7/10 applications and I know one of my recommenders has only submitted to 1 school thus far. One has to take into consideration if your recommendation is coming from an academic, they're currently completing finals and such. I have heard that letters can come after the deadline (as long as you've put them into the system). You can also go back in and send reminder requests once said application is submitted. I kept very organized and asked my rec's to have everything ready by 12/15.
  15. Is anyone else applying to UC Boulder? I'm getting mixed signals from them about my transcripts. The grad coordinator said they go to the grad school, but the grad school says they're not received on my online status thing. My undergrad degree went to their grad school and my non-degree undergrad work went to their art program. Should I just cough up the $11 and send them again? Thoughts? Also, I'm 3/4 of the way done...three more applications to go! Excited to get back to making things and applying for as many shows/grants possible to get things set up for this summer. Hows everyone else coming along?
  16. Burren would be sweet. I've been to Ireland a couple times and love the country. I began with 19 schools and narrowed it down…then had 13 and couldn't cough up the extra $300 to apply with the holidays/rent and such. Your work looks awesome, I bet you get in everywhere you apply!
  17. OSU- In the busy and awesomely tolerant/accepting/artsy city. OU-in beautiful and semi-isolated appalachia, OH, but it's 1.5 hours from Columbus so definitely not far. I'm not familiar with the faculty at OU but I can attest for OSU's facilities, faculty and funding….totally stellar. Check out Ken Rinaldo, Doo-Sung Yoo, Ann Hamilton, Malcolm Cochran, Carmel Buckley, Richard Harned…Sherman Studios (where Sculpture is)/main campus art buildings have everything you'd need and a really great clean space. Columbus is beyond affordable, it's going to be really tough for my partner and I to leave. Housing is cheap, there's tons of food, lots of art spaces that are conventional and non-conventional. I actually have a large group of friends that migrated to Chicago and adjusted very well. They're also looking into building a hi-speed railway from Cbus to Chi, too. Kinda cool. PM me if you want any more info. I love Columbus!
  18. Most schools iterate what they want to see in the SOP. My statement and SOP have overlapped when I've had to submit both- they're by the same author though so they should be fluid and make sense together.
  19. Have you looked at OSU? Columbus has a thriving art community and OSU sculpture program is beyond stellar. It's well funded and you can work with Ann Hamilton, fiber queen
  20. Don't feel dumb! It's the document that you essentially tell the school what you're going to do/what your motivations are/a little bit about your work etc. Every school has different requirements for their SOP. It's a beast so I strongly suggest to begin writing it many months out from your application.
  21. Saw the updated vulture article yesterday- here's to hoping my schools are generous.
  22. Does anyone want to do a 1:1 SOP exchange? I could use a pair of eyes that doesn't know me or my work. PM me if interested, I'm an excellent editor!
  23. Hi there! I'm an excellent editor but I'm struggling with my SOP. Would anyone be interested in trading SOP's? I definitely need someone that doesn't know me to look at mine and see if they get a sense of who I am. PM me if so. I'm happy to read SOP's, personal statements, cv review, etc.
  24. Yes, it's an excellent school all around. They have stellar facilities for sculpture. Are you applying to all three of those programs withing CM? Where else are you applying? a backup would be a smart plan as I believe they're quite exclusive.
