I don't think you'll make a bad impression if you ask; in fact I don't think there will be any impression involved at all, as there probably is a number of students asking about it every once and a while. I do, however, think that it is highly unlikely that they will be able to provide an accommodation for your spouse. One of my schools included this information in their pdf prospect, saying that partners or family members can come to the weekend, but their stay is not covered by the school.

Contact these awesome people to get info on these schools

Anyone here for Northwestern? Was so excited about this program, went to search for more *informal* information and found lots of people on the PSJR talking about its hostile atmosphere. Then, of course, they'll trash everything on the PSJR... -
I heard from Northwestern too! Accepted for theory. Anticipating making a hard choice now. )

Congratulations! SB looks absolutely amazing on the pictures, and it's a great department.
-
Geeee what's taking them soooo long! *rolling her eyes*
-
Oh well then I'll continue checking it. Congratulations on your UCD acceptance!

Interesting thing: from what I gather from the results submission board, a positive response almost never comes through the website. They should have called it "a rejection status check" instead of "an application status check." I guess I'll stop checking these things.

Congrats to Princeton and Emory admits!

Recent (and future) political theory admits!
jeudepaume replied to wokeem's topic in Political Science Forum
Hi Wokeem, AppliKant2014, and all! I also got accepted to Cornell for theory, and am also waiting on a couple more schools to hear from. Thrilled with this acceptance though, and also very tempted to accept it. My interests concern with democratic theory, citizenship, immigration, and national sovereignty, and I am (also) looking forward to working with pretty much the same group of people that you (wokeem) enlisted. All of them (except for Jill Frank, as I only recently learned that she joined the department) were mentioned in my statement. Dude, you just woke up all my (so carefully buried) worries in one sentence. Indeed, they say it is sinking. But it is just so hard to leave it, isn't it. It is one alluring ship. -
Right, in your case it's totally appropriate, since it's not just "oh thank you good people" type of thing. Hope, you'll be able to get the best option out of it. Sometimes external fellowships can be counted to extend the period of funding (e.g. Cornell specify this condition in their offer); might be nice to have a buffer period just in case, if no "double dipping" is allowed. Heartiest congratulations on the UCSD!

I feel the same! Still cannot get used to this feeling; anticipating it is going to be a hard choice.
-
Thank you TMCB! And once again, congratulations on the U of Washington admission!
-
Not to mention their irreversibility! Once you 'chose' to be a jerk you have to stick to it.
-
Congratulations Miroslav! That's probably the best time given the intensiveness of the grad school. It's always good to have someone supporting you during hard times.

Hey guys! I have yet another "do you" question for you. Do you answer to blast admission emails sent by DGSs? (not talking about accepting/declining the offer; only about acknowledging that you received the email). Or do you wait until the faculty emails you? Or do you email your POI first? (or what the heck is considered "right" in this situation?)

By the way, I was wondering how much rankings like THE, QS, or Shanghai University ranking apply to grad schools (or are they more about undergraduate programs). Also interesting whether they are authoritative in the US at all (a couple of my polisci fellows to whom I mentioned these rankings were unaware and/or unimpressed)

24th best in the world according to the THE. Competitive indeed!
-
Congrats to the Washington admissions! Best of luck to everyone else who's still waiting on the news!
-
Thank you, and it's fine! I really hope you get good news from them soon, and that it will go excellent for you!
-
Man I had an interview with them last year... a 5 am Skype interview, which I'll forever remember as The Big Freeze Up *sigh* P.S. gee I'm really generally not good with Skype interviews. They always go so awkward for me.

Congratulations Toni! (and yeah, isn't it nice not to have to stop your life for two years?)

Йеп, русская) Mine is political theory: democratic theory, citizenship and immigration. Yeah, you're right. I wanted to talk a bit about that there is a considerable number of schools in Europe that do not require knowing an additional language (if you're interested), but with interests like that it makes sense for you to study in (so to say) your area of interest. Good luck with hearing from your schools!

So comprehensive and well-organized that the thread has died in light of the needlessness of any additional comments Well done cautiously!
-
Привет! What are your research interests if you don't mind me asking? I was just about to write that I respect a man (woman) who can write about punches and cards in their statement, and still get picked. I ended up cutting all my semi-jokes and non-related stuff from there. Just in case.

Hi! Check it here http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=political To my recollection I don't remember any results appear for your schools. Congratulations to all the new admits!
