Big congrats, genderboi!! Mind sharing where you're located? My mailing address for SSHRC is my home address in Toronto, so trying to guess how quickly a hypothetical letter might get there... Brutal not to be able to check the mailbox myself... it's reasonable to ask my parents to drive home from work to check, right? -

Thanks, genderboi!! Suddenly next week seems so far away... -
Thanks, Minou. Got my rejection this morning so no luck for me this year. Good luck to all still in it! Fingers crossed for SSHRC now...

I'm waiting on this too... nothing yet. Semi-finalist notifications are supposed to go out early this month right?

2014 grads - how is it going so far?!

Great to hear about all of your programs! Just started my Masters in at Cambridge - loving my cohort so far! We're only just getting started (term starts in early October here) so I'm still nervous, excited and all that jazz. There are 9 of us in the Master of Research and first year PhD combined courses, and over the next few weeks we'll be presenting our research proposals to each other in our pre-field seminar. (Yikes!!) Our only required courses are theory and method seminars, and then we're free to construct a program suitable to our research from all of the lectures/seminars in our department and others. I'm loving the freedom of the loosely-structured program, but it is a bit sink-or-swim for international students when it comes to figuring out the course systems etc. as they don't offer much guidance. My main anxiety at the moment has been that everyone here seems to just assume that MRes students are planning to carry on to the PhD at Cambridge, whereas I'm planning to move to the US to do mine... worried that it will make asking for reference letters slightly awkward. :S -
I hadn't either before applying actually. At Cambridge (like some other UK schools) they have two types of MA's - the MPhil (Master of Philosophy) is a course-based program meant for those who have an undergrad degree in a different field, and the MRes (Master of Research) which is thesis-based and for those with a background in the subject. The MRes is meant to be a precursor for a PhD, I suppose.

Hi all! Thought I would introduce myself. I'm a Canadian applicant (McGill undergrad) and was in the application fray last year as well. I have had my heart set on the unattainable nirvana that is UC Berkeley. My focus is on legal anthropology and anthropology of religion. I didn't get in last year and so I've (very happily) accepted an offer to do an MRes at Cambridge starting this fall. I'm looking to take another run at Berkeley this year, and possibly the year after that as well (along with some backups of course). Doing the MRes is kind of the long road around for me, but since I had no publications and only some research experience following my undergrad I hope it's going to be the best way to gain the kind of experience I need to get into a great PhD program in the states. I'm beyond excited to start my graduate program this fall, but it feels strange to be preparing both to start and apply for graduate school at the same time 0.o....

Joining the wait listed crew! Just found out today that I've been wait listed at UBC. I suppose it's better than a rejection, but I can't say I'm thrilled. Best of luck to us all!
-
Seriously!! If there's no hope I'd rather just know now. This way I have to wait at least another week.
-
Just found out I've been wait listed for the MA at UBC... It's one of my top choices so I really hope I can get off that list!! No indication of how long the list is or where I am on it.
-
Still waiting to hear from UBC's MA program. When I e-mailed a week and a half ago they told me that decisions would be out by the end of the month. The later it gets the more I'm convinced that I've been rejected. Gah!

I can't believe how long this process it taking! Still in agony waiting to hear about my MA application at UBC for Anthropology. At this point I wonder if no news means implied rejection. Is anyone else in this boat? Good vibes to everyone else still waiting!! -

Sorry to hear that worrypower...sounds pretty harsh on the part of the administration. Do you have a POI at Queen's that you can contact to get some feedback on your application? Best of luck with McMaster and UofT, both really good options. -
Congrats Kaitri!! Can I ask if you were accepted for the MA or the MSc? I'm still waiting to hear back about the MA. As a Toronto native I think UofT is a really great option, especially if you're hoping to go on to a PhD afterwards. UofT has great name recognition in Canada and a lot of the US as well. But I don't know a whole lot about McMaster, and obviously program fit should be your first consideration. Congrats again!

Congrats Ancient_DNA!! Sounds like a great offer. I'm waiting on word for a UofT MA in Anthro, so nice to know that the answer might be coming along soon! -
Anyone want to claim the UBC MA admit? I'm waiting to hear too, and am just wondering if the notification came from a POI or the graduate department. Thanks and congrats!!
-
I told myself I was going to call Pittsburgh if I hadn't heard anything by Wednesday...totally chickened out!! Looks like I'm in for another century-long weekend of no news. Anybody else in this boat??
-
Thanks sarab and Kaitri!! I'm still waiting on a couple of other responses, so I'm not certain of anything yet. My partner and I are also trying to coordinate program, so still lots of decisions to make!
-
Thanks Daisy!! My area is legal anthropology, which is a strong focus within BUs department. It was a really great fit for me.

Just got an official acceptance to Boston U via e-mail!! 5 year fellowship. So excited! Its nice to have some positive feedback after a few rejections. Best of luck and good vibes to all those still waiting!!

Just received my official acceptance letter via e-mail! Five year fellowship, with options to TA starting in the second year. Really excited!! Keeping my fingers crossed for you, Whatthewhat. Hope you will have good news soon!

I'm still waiting on UPitt, Boston U, and a couple of Canadian Masters' programs (UofT and UBC). My POI at BU e-mailed to let me know that the committee recommended me for admission (yay!!) but I haven't received official word yet. I know Pitt has made their list, but I haven't had the guts to call and find out if I'm on it yet. I think if I don't hear by wednesday I'll call...ahh!!
