Royal College of Art- Not accepted. Email notifications went out today. I'm happy that they at least were diligent with sticking to deadlines and letting people know about delays. Wish more schools were as punctual.

I've talked to my faculty from undergrad and they even consider your work among the students who are already at the program. So, if the portfolio can contribute to group dynamics, that becomes a competitive factor.

Yup. that makes sense. I stopped worrying over valentines day more than a decade ago. Now i've heard the someone on here saying rejects were sent on april fools… that seems pretty harsh too.

RCA sent an email saying that the February 14th projected response time is being moved back to Monday the 17th. Just a little bit longer and we will all have answers. But maybe since you have recieved an interview request, I should cross it off my list? I don't know, I'm applying under sculpture.

Because the program needs recruitment... Even if it's only on gradcafe? I have a friend who went to ucsb and loved it. I think it's because she got to surf between classes.

Totally. some kind of criticism would have been nice… even if its some number code system with a reference sheet like back in grade school.

'Applicant Denied' for Temple, Tyler school of art. The only thing that sucks about that reject is that I will never know if it was because one of my recommenders submitted a letter so late that I was not considered in the batch or if it was because I didn't have the type of work that they were looking for. I know that interviews requests went out before by applicant was considered complete, sculpture interviews are for March 2nd. Oh well. Im not too broken hearted over this one.

Im out of the game for Temple. No biggie. That city did kinda scare me, even though I have visited the area a few times.

Hi Coreythegiraffe, Could you share what your SAIC sculpture interview was like last year? Did you Skype or visit in person? What was the review like? Was it just faculty or were there current students present? Any particular questions beyond the obvious about artwork? and this is silly but i had to ask… did you wear nice 'interview' clothes or casual clothes? Anything you can share would be really helpful. Thanks!

They do interview. Just not everyone who is on their short list.

I received my interview request from CCA around feb 5th to visit for an interview but I opted for skype... thou i still haven't received a time a date for that yet.

I got that Columbia financial aid message as well. I haven't completed the financial aid forms yet.

Everyone has particular artists and institutions they want to work with and why. I'm looking for artists who have a specific background and that I know we would vibe well, not just the ooh and ahhs of having an crush on their artwork. I love Barbara Kruger a ton, but she really isnt the one that I want giving me feed back. Think of it this way... I'm one less person to compete with for a spot.

Facilities and faculty are very important for me. Primarily facilities: They did not have the digital output (CNC, Laser, 3D print) or foundry capabilities. So I looked at the faculty part and I was only really interested in one faculty member: Charles Ray. That was not enough for me. The only place on my list has weaker facilities but makes up with 3-4 faculty I am dying for is Columbia.

Are you going skype or in person? I filled the online form out for a skype interview but have not had anyone contact me to confirm. Also, I received a phone call today from SAIC sculpture dept requesting an in person interview on March 1st! This one i will go to in person for sure.

I was contacted on Feb 5th via email and was given the option of setting up a skype interview. I am not sure if it was just the sculpture department or all department. Wish i could be of more help.

I know that VCU departments do all reviews and invites independently. Some departments are much slower than others because of the amount of applications they need to go through. They are also the type to invite current grad students in the selection process.

Also, I made a bunch of different test calls to friends to make sure all my settings and sounds were in order. I opted for having small ear buds that also had a mic.
