  1. German for Reading is offered as a two part year long course every year (the fall semester goes through a Grammer book, the spring is further reading). You are right in that they can't be taken as electives, and so must be taken in addition to a regular course load. However, there is no extra tuition charge for taking a fifth course so no problem there.
  2. I am talking about the Emory Graduate Department of Religion. The HB faculty informed us that they submitted their ranking on Monday and that the GDR Admissions committee would make/release decisions for the first round on Friday. I'm fairly certain that means all GDR decisions will be made on Friday.
  3. It depends on the department, the GDR Admissions committee is making decisions for first rounds admits on Friday.
  4. It's also weird that there are two postings for NT up. I was under the impression that Duke only interviews one candidate for each subfield (unlike Emory or Baylor). However, I could very well be incorrect.
  5. Nope, and I'm starting to get nervous. It seems like they usually send out invites about this time each year, right?
  6. Haven't heard from Duke here either
  7. I'll be at Emory as well! Yet, again, for HB and not NT.
  8. I heard from Baylor too! I'm OT/HB track though.
  9. Hi All! First update: I have heard back from BC and have an interview next week. Any ideas on what I should be prepared for (this is my first interview)? I haven't heard from any other programs; anyone heard from Emory or Duke yet? They seem to usually notify about interviews pretty early in the process.
  10. Agreed that the forum seems to be sluggish this year - at least compared to the activity last year and in 2013! Maybe most of the members are now those in PhD programs? Well, my sub-discipline is Hebrew Bible, and I've applied across the board: Yale, Emory, Duke (PhD and ThD), Princeton Theological, UVA, UChicago (Div), BC (Theology), and Baylor. And the waiting continues...
  11. Thanks for the replies! I do feel that Yale would be the best choice academically, after considering their exstensive list of faculty and the reputation of the school. I am just worried about living expenses in CT. Even though Yale has waived tuition, UGA is offering $10,000 in stipend for the assisstantship. That is what has made the choice so darn hard! wela asherateh: Thanks you for the perspective of a current student. I have spent a lot of time looking at 1st tier PhD programs, and you are right. Many of them have at least one student from YDS's MAR program, if not more than one. I will definitely PM you.
  12. Hi, I am a new poster, so sorry ahead of time for any mistakes. I am currently a senior Biblical Studies major at a small evangelical college in South Georgia. My desire is to one day teach within the field of Old Testament/Hebrew Bible, and so, I have applied to numerous graduate programs in order to work towards this goal. However, the two primary schools that I am interested in are Yale Divinity and the University of Georgia. I have been accepted into Yale Div's M.A.R.c program with a full ride and into UGA's M.A. in Religion program with a full ride and the promise of work in the form of an assistantship. My question is, which program would provide me with the most opportunity as I seek to get into a 1st tier PhD program? I realize that UGA's religion program is not exactly on the map, but they do have Dr. Friedman and have recently acquired Dr. Halpern. I imagine that their program would be smaller, allowing me to work more closely with my professors, and I have already been offered a teaching assistantship. On the other hand, Yale's program has all the prestige of Yale Divinity as well as big name scholars such as Dr. Collins and Dr. Baden. So, as I am not sure what affects a student's chances of getting accepted into a strong doctoral program, I find myself at an impasse. I know there are a lot of students on here who have already been through masters programs and faced down PhD applications, so I am seeking wisdom from you all who have gone before me!
