Bad move. Penn only accepts 10 pages
-
Is this true? No surprise. I was not particularly thrilled with their application process anyways... what was up with that form (after paying the app fee) that made you answer questions about marriage/children before they'd consider y From Harvard.

From the results page for Harvard History Phd program: No surprise. Did they really do that?

Its Friday.no one works on fridays!

If we don't hear from Penn today then in all liklihood that means we'll have to wait until March.
-
Oh that wasn't at you! that was for the poster on the results page.
-
I agree, but two knocks against you? low GPA AND a low GRE? highly unlikely.
-
the 3.3/161/153 one?
-
How bad?

PS if anyone has any questions about Philly I lived there for over a decade.

GWU is notorious for accepting students without offering them funding.

I second this.

Soliciting application feedback
cooperstreet replied to goingtogeorgia's topic in Political Science Forum
I asked for a lot of feedback from people and rarely got good information, and never from a DGS. One DGS told me that my undergraduate grades were too low. Which is the last thing you want to hear, that something you did when you were 18 is preventing you from getting into grad school at age 30. Asking for feedback can't hurt though. -
No, even thought I live in south jersey, and my fiancee goes there, and am not moving, I wouldn't.
-
I CANNOT believe that Penn is taking this long. Who haven't we heard from yet?
-
Wow, yeah WTF! unprofessional really

Right but I think the theory students who go to Columbia, Princeton, Yale, etc., and then don't get jobs, will lower these schools placement rates. But schools that are lower ranked, like NYU and Rochester, don't have these theory students bringing their averages down. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
-
One thing that you kind of hinted at, but didn't state explicitly is this: THEORY. Any department that accepts theorists is going to fuckup their placement statistics. I think this explains Rochester and NYU having good placement records. They simply don't admit many theorists. And theorists don't get TT jobs.

I'd be shocked if we didn't hear from Penn this week.
-
Yeah if anyone checked that they want to be considered for the MA program, you're going to be waiting a long time for those results. They did send out the admitted students welcome email last week, so if you haven't heard anything from Columbia by now, I think its safe to say you're rejected from the PhD program. MA is another matter though.

Yeah, wtf, they're really late this year.
-
Should I bother trying again next year?

Isn't political communication quant heavy? with a lot of polling/surveying data? If so that quant score and lack of quant classes will kill you in the app process, moreso if your writing sample is weak too. The good news is that you can change them. -
they're out. they sent out the admitted students email for recruitment weekend.

Mix of brutal GRE scores but publication record/WE?
cooperstreet replied to CamCanadian's topic in Political Science Forum
yes, your gre score is too low to get into those schools and pubications don't matter unless they are in peer-reviewed relevant academic journals. -
I just wanted to add that in addition to DR. BFB being an incredible help on this board, his book is an incredibly original and impressive piece of scholarship that puts formal models and high level IR theory in conversation. I highly recommend it to other IR nerds out there.
