  1. My buddy got this as a decision, is this a thumbs up?
  2. I was just on a campus visit to a school that I've been accepted to. The Chair outright asked me if I was coming there, and I said most likely but I'm not sure yet, and told him I hadn't heard back from other schools yet. I really want attend this program, but I cannot in good conscience make a decision yet without knowing my other offers. They understand this right? Just trying to sway me? I want to go there but if I get a better offer from another school (funding), I can't turn it down, as much as I'd prefer this program. He asked me how important funding was to me, and I was honest and told him it is important, but not the most important factor. I didn't want to sound needy, while at the same time I didn't want to sound like I'd be fine without it. Am I good?
  3. Right, I acknowledge that many are applying to a MA/PhD program, which makes sense for the worrying. And it does make sense that all PhD responses are coming in sooner than MA/MS ones.
  4. The subtitle is for Ph.d applicants who already have a Masters.
  5. Don't get me wrong, ask all the questions you want, but when I look at the results search, its all PhD applicants. I'm applying to Masters, and this is my first time. Are you PhD people first time applicants? Did you get a Masters already? Is this site mostly for humanities PhD applicants, cuz I feel really out of place.
  6. Got a letter from New Mexico on Saturday telling me that they forwarded my application to the department...what a teaser!
  7. Well they got rid of all the Ball State entries...so I can't see if anyone else got into the same program I did...
  8. I just hope they don't indeed have a counter. If they did, I'd probably get rejected for my obsessiveness...
  9. Same here, he said "and once admitted, I would enjoy working with you as your advisor". Does he know something I don't know?
  10. I wouldn't worry about it. If they're that easily perturbed, and deny you because you reminded them that you exist, do you really want to be in that stingy of a department? I don't. Actually, I just sent an email to a faculty member that we discussed working on a project together. Asked if there was any news, and further explained my interests. And I sent another one to a faculty member that was listed in my SOP but hadn't contacted yet. Like I said earlier, if I get denied because I sent them an extra email, then I probably wouldn't want to be there. What if they are waiting on an applicant with your interest, and haven't seen any applications yet? If you let them know/remind them, perhaps they'll go looking for your application. It might just be me thinking this way, since I've already been accepted to a worthy program, so what happens, happens. Adieu
  11. How did that work out for you btw?
  12. I know exactly what you guys are going through, two of my schools are mountain time. Actually, I just sent an email to a prospective advisor about the project he discussed with me. I just wanted to remind him that we discussed working together, and about some of my interests. This is good to do to stay on the radar right? I also mentioned that I applied (twice actually) and that I was eagerly awaiting a response. I thought it would be a good way to perhaps get an unofficial decision or find out if there's something wrong with my app. Good? No? Don't matter?
  13. So do AdComs meet in like a conference setting? Say, they plan a meeting for 6-8pm and get everything sorted out? Two of my schools are out west so when its considered late my time, I like knowing that its still possible I'll hear something as they're two hours behind. I've read that they sometimes pass applications around throughout the day and people sign off on the applicant. But do they meet after hours?
  14. Yeah, just found this...one more place to check frantically everyday!
  15. I'm waiting on Wyoming geography. As an undergrad at Ohio State's geography program, I can vouch that Dr. Wainwright is the shit! Having taken a couple courses with him, he is legit, and if you have him as your advisor, you will go far. Great guy!
  16. I'm taking it easy. I only need 7 credit hours (on the quarter system at Ohio State), so I'm taking my final required GEC course, I'm done with my major and minor, and will fill the other two credit hours with physical activity courses like hockey and tennis. It should be a fun quarter. Plus,I'm working 35-38 hours a week and will most likely have an internship at a local planning division. Don't want to take a course I don't need and do bad in it...
  17. So I reviewed my application statuses for two schools, and they say that they are processed, but under Preference (what does that mean) it says "not entered". Another thing, it has all these requirements, and some are entered without dates, and some have dates, and a weird thing with one, it says it has received my high school transcript, it even has my HS name, but under college trans. it says "college unknown". The only way they'd know my HS is from the college transcript. Should I call? One more thing, when it says its been processed, should I expect a decision soon?
  18. My first acceptance made their decision the same day they received my application. The letter was dated the same day. It shocked me, but it was an awesome feeling I have to say!
  19. Thanks you two, I'm waiting to hear back from three more. I was surprised though, they received my app on Monday, and my acceptance letter is dated the same day, so they must have made the decision quick.
  20. Got my first acceptance letter. Ball State MURP. Its nice to know I'm in somewhere, a lot off my shoulders!
  21. Hi, I'm going to graduate next spring with my BA in Geography (Urban and Regional Studies) with a minor in Sociology from The Ohio State University. I'm looking at MURP programs in Ohio and surrounding states. I think I've narrowed it down to, in this order: Louisville, Ball St., Cincy, and Ohio State. I think I'd have a better chance for funding from Louisville or Ball St. Louisville is very appealing to me with all its joint programs. I currently have a 3.1 GPA and am going to take my GRE in August. Does anyone have any input on how hard it is to get funding from U of L and Ball? I'm also looking at Miami of Ohio, although the degree is a MA in Geog. Does anyone know how intense the Urban Planning specialization is? I know its not accredited by the PAB, but its better than nothing, and I think I'd have a good chance for funding. Also, how important does the Undergrad school play into the application process? Am I wrong for thinking an Ohio State degree will help my chances since it is ranked 5th in the nation for Geography? Thanks.
  22. I'm don't know the answer to you question, but I have another. When the scores get sent, are they separate from your application? Do the schools just get the permission to view your scores? How does that work?
  23. One can apply for grad school while still completing undergrad work correct? When it says for admissions that you need to have a bachelor's etc., I can still apply right? Even though I haven't graduated yet? Is it just conditional until my final transcript etc? Thanks.
