Hey if any U Delaware grad students are looking for a roommate next year message me!
  2. University of Delaware!!! ITS DONE ITS DONE ITS DONE
  3. Yeah I was so sure it would be Williams too! But UMass is such a good program, and they probably have a Starbucks there
  4. Congratulations!! It must feel so good to finally be done.
  5. Yes I completely agree. I have turned down all of my offers that I am sure I will not be accepting and am just waiting on 2 schools to tell me about funding, which is why I am waiting until the last minute. As someone on a waitlist for funding, it really would be amazing if people could turn down their offers as soon as they can. A lot of us are probably going to be faced with the choice of just accepting offers on the 15th and just hoping that funding comes through.
  6. Hello friends, the end is almost here and for some of us it already is a done deal. So I thought it might be a good idea for people to post where they have decided to attend, both for funsies and because it might be useful if people want to get in touch with those who will be in their cohort. so have at it.
  7. I'm fairly positive but I will probably wait until the last minute, just in case. Imma start a thread on here for where everyone ends up--I'm really curious
  8. Congrats!! You hadn't accepted an offer anywhere else already?
  9. I'm in the same boat. This last Friday I just broke down and decided to email the DGS of the program I'm most considering and basically was just like "do you know when I might be able to expect an answer about funding?" I think they have to wait as long as they can to inform MA students because they are waiting for phD students to turn down their offers, so I'm sure they probably aren't trying to be cagey about it. But the deadline is approaching so they need to get on it.
  10. Hey you might want to email them- their deadline to accept their admissions offer is April 1. Maybe you are on a waitlist or something. May I ask what your top choice was for the special option?
  11. Firstly, congrats on getting into two excellent programs! Either is an awesome choice. If you aren't planning on going into a PhD program, either is going to set you up nicely; they are both well known as highly respected institutions outside of academia, so you already have name recognition going for you. So I think you should probably focus on what is the best personal fit for you and what you are comfortable with. I am much more familiar with the Courtauld's program (and was admitted but sadly won't be attending). If money isn't an issue, I would say be adventurous and go for the Courtauld. I think London is probably more expensive to live in than NYC (in addition to the costs of moving overseas if you are international, and all of the headaches of getting a visa). If you want to work in auction houses, I would also say go with Courtauld. They have an excellent placement record with auction houses like Sotheby's and Christie's. You might also want to consider the type of environment you work best in. The Courtauld is basically an entire school for art history, so if you choose to go there you will be completely surrounded by art history people all the time. If you like the idea of a small, more personal department, then maybe the Courtauld isn't a good idea. However, IFA isn't too small either. Also consider if you want a 1 year program or a 2 year one. I heard recently that England recently changed their student visa rules so that you can apply to be in England for 2 years instead of 1. That might be something to consider, if you would like to go to the Courtauld for one year and then work at a London auction house/gallery for the following year (as a friend of mine did, and loved it). Either are great choices though and of course the Courtauld's deadline is rapidly approaching so good luck!
  12. Ok that is good to hear. Yeah the wait is very stressful at this point. Hopefully they let us know this week one way or the other; I need this over. Good luck!
  13. wait my status on UVA's website hasn't changed from "submitted"...GAHHHHHHHH
  14. May I ask if you guys who just checked UVA were sent an email notifying you to check the website? and congrats on your awesome prospects to both of you!! Honestly, part of me is somewhat praying I am rejected from UVA just so that my decision is easier.
  15. Gah one rejection just went up for UVA what is this?? I'm way too nervous to check the website. I'll wait for some sort of email telling me to at least.
  16. Gosh tell me about it. Every time I open my email and don't have a decision from them I want to scream. I though about emailing them but, considering my deadlines aren't that impending and I'm just impatient, I guess I will wait it out. I su this every week, but I have a feeling this week they will tell us!
  17. The top comment is pretty dead on I think. I also think it depends on what you are interested in doing. If you fully intend on going on to your PhD, both are great programs and will probably be excellent in setting you up for such a prospect. If that is the case, I would honestly just say go with whichever one is cheaper (hopefully you are in-state). IFA is probably more prestigious I guess, but I think that is more in regards to their PhD program. I have heard many professors of mine say that they think that the MA for both Columbia and IFA are a bit of "cash cow" programs, where basically the cohort is kind of large and they charge ridiculous prices because they know they can and people will still flock there. I am guessing that Hunter is cheaper, so that might be a better bet for you, and they (as well as IFA of course) have an excellent PhD placement record. However, if you are not set on doing the PhD I would say go to IFA, if only for the name. Sadly, outside of academia, saying you have a degree from NYU is going to get your farther in the job market than one from Hunter. Outside of NYC and academia, Hunter isn't too well known. That is absolutely not the case if you are continuing to your PhD with a degree from Hunter, though. Don't stress though, both are amazing!
  18. If anyone who has been admitted to UNC's MA program has heard anything about funding I would be veeerrrryyyyyy grateful for a PM
  19. Congrats I have a friend doing their MA in that same program it seems great! Kerrytown is a great area and very grad student - lots of families live there too, its pretty hip but quiet. Kerrytown is also incredibly safe. Anywhere in Kerrytown is around a 10-15 minute walk to campus and the houses are gorgeous. It is certainly possible to find a room for that much - you can also try the Co-Ops, many of which are in Kerrytown. I would recommend looking into Wickfield Properties, Oxford Companies, and Old Town Realty, among others, if you want to live in Kerrytown. However, I will say that living on the other side of campus is fine too, and usually a bit cheaper. I lived in both areas are both are great, but the area like, South/Southeast of campus is more of the party area and can be loud on the weekends, but not horrible. I will say though, that it isn't as safe. When I lived there my house got broken into once and there were a couple of random scary events, but not anything insane I guess (go to Detroit for that). A lot of professors live over that way and there are some nice places. Realty companies that would be helpful for that are like, Arch Realty, Dan's Houses, Campus Realty, etc. Also Craigslist has tons of stuff too, of course.
  20. Hey did either of you interview with UVa?? I'm just curious if all of the professors were interviewing their prospective students or just some of them, because now I'm thinking only a few of them decided to actually conduct interviews. I would really like to know my admission status too!
  21. I haven't heard back from those either which seems odd...it looks like a lot of people are hearing (both rejections and acceptances) And for those wondering about UVA, when I interviewed with them they said likely mid march so probably next week I think....
  22. So I keep seeing people posting about how they weren't actually informed that they were on the waitlist for such and such school, and only found out after directly inquiring. Does anyone know which schools are potentially doing that?? One month left of obsessively checking my email every 5 minutes...
  23. I spoke with someone the other day who was in a very similar situation with a different school. They emailed the department with the rapidly approaching deadline and explained their situation and were given an extension. You could cross your fingers and try that, especially if you aren't certain about funding issues.
  24. You were waitlisted for the stipend? Considering their website says that all MAs are funded, that is odd. Good luck! I think the problem is that, while there are certainly funded MA programs, hardly any will tell you that before you are accepted. Its just a big guessing/hoping game. Tulane and Notre Dame are unique in that they straight up guarantee funding.
