  1. Whatever, I wish it is true I haven't had interview It is so humiliating experience! Why can't they send rejections and acceptances all at once?
  2. It is clear from SheWrote that no decision will be made unless all interviews are over. Since it has been made, all interviews are over. So, condolences to many like me- We have not had interviews, We are already out! Congrats to the God's unique creations who got in
  3. I have applied for PhD EPPE. I see one of the admits on results page for EPPE. May I know if that person had interview as well? I emailed them and they said my application is yet under review. There are around 4 admits here declared. So, considering at least 25% people use GradCafe and post here, 16 seats out of 25 are gone! Oh!!!!!!!!
  4. The penn gse admission blog says that it is less probable that you would be 'in' if you have not received the invitation yet.. So, disappointment it is :|
  5. I am an international applicant for EPPE concentration. Should I assume the interview invites have been sent and I .... Oh my :-( :-(
  6. I have applied for PhD, UMich is on my preferred list.... Fingers crossed, no news yet
  7. Has anyone received any intimation about interviews for PhD? They are supposed to happen late January, so the candidates might have been notified. I haven't heard anything yet.
  8. Thanks @Seeking - that helps me, especially in the objectives n topic area. However, the topic is not expected to look like title but sentence. Thanks @TakeruK - Yes, combining method and topic seems closer, thanks! Plus, I would write to department asking what they exactly expect from me- topic or area in broader sense. So, thanks for making things clearer to distinguish! Thanks both :-) Any1 else? Specific replies n examples?
  9. Hi, I am applying for PhD in Higher Education-related area. I am finding it extremely hard to form an essay and one sentence research interest/ topic for the application. My area of interest includes Higher Education Policy and Economics, and probably limited concerns within. I would hesitate explaining everything here, but I guess I am sure of what direction I want to go. After seeing Faculty etc, I have shortlisted UPenn, UMich, Stanford and HGSE for application. I have good experience with Masters application and my essays have been successful. But, PhD! I am going blank! If you may please help: Sample or Outline PhD Essays are welcome! I am not asking for prototype, but an idea as in how deeper or how closer I risk my knowledge there. "Explain your research topic in one sentence" - Please tell me if you have done this and what are examples... I feel like they want me to write research-objectives of my thesis at application-stage itself. All replies welcome! THANKS :-)
  10. May I know which programs? This might serve the shortlisting. Thanks
  11. Although not directly addressing your question, I can tell you about POLS application: The application for POLS is quite different than other competitive Masters applications. There are specific questions separately given in the whole process. They ask you about POLS project, research interests, your past projects etc very separately (i.e. you can not expect a single essay or SOP to do it all). I am sorry I do not remember the exact questions and answer length, but can tell you this much. Also, the answer length varies from 150 to 300 words. Gd lk! PS- POLS was not my primary focus, didn't go for that, so didn't get-in either
  12. Thank you ZeChocMoose, Yes, that's what I was worried about. People in Chairs share my interest and I wrote to them earlier. It seems going well. But then, I am continuously scared of minimizing the probability because the juniors (conventionally) have better chances of pulling you in.
  13. thanks... but I remember somebody saying that they don't respond. Well, definitely worth a try!
  14. any other opinion? any other experience to guide?
  15. Thank you! Your counter-questions prompts that I should strongly consider junior faculty. Is it so? Junior Faculty consideration helps? =is the way? Interests combine higher education, economics and employment issues......... about outcomes of higher education and influence of policies... (skipping the full explanation here) Things drawing me to Harvard: full funding (+++), reputation and recognition in my home country ( I am only capable of applying to places that give me terminal degree + reputation + absolutely full funding ) I would welcome your answer to the last question too! thanks!
  16. @merrysoprano Thanks for raising our confidence level!
  17. Applying for Masters after CA will be waste for you. If you can align your expertise and interests very well, PhD is better option for you. Try looking for PhD to those who value your qualifications. Also, I will suggest you to contact WES with detailed qualification enquiry. Source: India, Know about CA, CFA etc and Familiar with people in these careers
  18. Hi All! I am applying for HGSE PhD. I have some doubts, hope you can help: Quick facts: Applied HGSE last year and few other schools, got admit into many great schools but HGSE Applying again to HGSE this year Average GRE, Excellent Acads and 2+ Work Exp Acads not from Edu or similar field 2+ Work Exp in Edu! I am an international applicant. I think poor SOP was reason for rejection at HGSE. My recommendations are going to be same as last year. I have no control over that as such. Since HGSE application is thru GSAS, I hope it will not matter. Is it fine to send same recommendations again? SOP etc will be certainly different. I have been advised by many people that one should mention Assistant or max- Associate Professors for PhD admission. This increases or rather this is the only way to get easiest possible admit. In my case, my research interests match with only senior people- Chair professors, Dean etc. I could not find any Assistant or Associate Professor matching perfectly with my interests. Since my application was anyway rejected last year, should I resist looking at Senior Professors. I will have to modify my research interests a little or perhaps too far to get along with the Assistant and Associate Professors at HGSE. So, What should I do? I am going for PhD directly after Bachelors. I have read people suggesting Masters prior PhD. Is it absolutely impossible to get into PhD for me? I would like to know about books, quick readings and general articles that will tell me about BASICS OF: Higher Education Policy, Economic and Education, Labor Issues related to this (( I know about them, but I want to get acquainted with how people in education look at it and talk about it, in their words )) Thank you
