Currently I am in a program that has a lot of qualitative researchers in comparative politics. A lot of the MA students here seem to have a violent reaction to quantitative methods. Having an undergrad in economics makes me more amiable to the quantification of methodology but I do plenty of qualitative stuff. In the end, I think DSI is correct that the logic of social science is unified and qualitative and quantitative research methods aim at the same goal. I just think that our explanatory power is not as great as some scholars in the field would care to admit. That's my two cents.

I certainly will not apply for PhD again. I am considering doing another masters but in finance or economics. Not too hard to get accepted into these with my stats and they pay for themselves. As my uncle advised me, the phd has no value-added in the private sector unless it is in some field like CS or Biomedical etc. I will be happy in a way. I enjoyed my pre-phd-ambitions life. I liked having the time to run for an hour a day and feel the wind on my face. No concern to be the best or impress anyone. It was a simpler time. I have a great girlfriend who doesn't care if I am "successful' or not. She just wants me to be happy and work in a place where I am happy. Long term, I want to own a cafe on the beach in a far-away place with high inflation!

I am waiting on Northwestern for either an accept or reject. This forum is to get a sense of who else is still waiting and the number of people who are. I count 1.

I applied to WashU and was rejected. The letter said that I didn't match well with their scholars and I kind of knew that when I applied. Probably I just ignored that idea in my head because I liked the school so much. That said, it's going to be interesting to find out where I stand.

Pretty sweet this deal. I get to pay cash money to be anxious and dejected. Not too mention that I cannot even work on my MA thesis while this is going on. Just one, that's all, just one.
