  1. Yes, he has his Phd in Psychology, he has been teaching for many years, and he also has a lot of responsibility in the department administration, but he does not conduct research. I understand that I should proceed with caution, but he is giving me a lot of opportunities in teaching (Ta'ing, guest lecture, tutoring) and it is such a pity that a LOR from him probably does not have the value of a letter from a full professor.
  2. Thank you for the advice. He is not involved in research, just teaching undergrad; but he is my academic advisor, I took two classes with him, TA'd twice etc. so for sure he is the person that knows me the best.
  3. Is it OK to have a letter of recommendation from a senior lecturer rather than from a full professor? The lecturer knows me well (I took two of his classes and I'm TA'ing for him) and he really likes me. Unfortunately he is not involved in research, but I should have two other letters from research profs.
  4. Thanks a lot for your advices! It's clearer now.
  5. Wow, a minor is 36 credits, at my university many majors are 36/40 credits! To build a math foundation is good: you need calculus up to multivariate and linear algebra. Make sure to take probability and a couple of applied stats classes, in particular linear regression. As I wrote, I also suggest a matlab class. Once you have settled with the classes you want to take, start to look for a RA position. Good luck with everything!
  6. Hi all, I am a Psych major, I will apply next year, but I've started to look at the process. I have a question: I have read that one of the best way to stand out as an applicant is to submit an experimental proposal to your POI. One of my professors said that's the way she got into Harvard. Now what's the best way to do that? When you contact your POI via email? Or in the SoP? What do you think? Has anybody done something like that? Thank you!
  7. Minoring in Statistics is a great idea! Also take a couple of computer classes if those fit your schedule, like Intro to Matlab or Statistical Analysis in SAS.
