I am sad. But congrads and thanks for confirming. One more thing: was it an official mail or personal mail from a faculty member?
-
There is a Berkeley! oh god please be a spam. I can not take two rejections right now
-
It would be great if someone claimed that waitlist. Last year Michigan announced the waitlist days later than the first round of admissions. So did they broke their habit? Does no mail mean clear rejection?
-
but I thought it also depends on departmental fit. so no acceptances there does not simply mean no acceptances in top 10 anywhere!. Did I get it all wrong?? Seriously. Am I a fool to think that this process is more complex than that?
-
I saw some University of Michigan admissions!! (yet my e-mail account is still emty *sob*)
-
yeah congrats indeed! please share your stats so that the next year people will make more informed applications. What is there to lose anyway, already in the no.1 program?

still haven't receive any mail from princeton. any rejections guys?

Fall 2014 Sociology Interviews and/or Acceptances
gretagarbo replied to Maleficent999's topic in Sociology Forum
ok now I get it. I am sorry I didn't get what you meant. I didn't know that there were 'all-expenses-paid interview weekends' anyway, I just assumed you were talking about phone-interviews. I am not a graduate student, nor an authority on the admission procedures. I just wanted to share what I know, as all the forum followers, no need to fuss about that. -
please explain to me one thing, I am not convinced. How can it hurt your application if you share your stats, even your name, on the survey! I mean, do they have the right to take back the offer they made? I don't think so. If you are worried that another school's adcomm will decipher your identity and know that you've already had an admission, it would only confirm their decision to recruit you, it would not lead them to cross you out of their list. In the case of a rejection, there is nothing to lose and no body cares.

Range of funding for PoliSci Programs

Berkeley gives that much to political science grads?? I was told that the Sociology grads only receive 15k, why this huge difference?? -
Fall 2014 Sociology Interviews and/or Acceptances
gretagarbo replied to Maleficent999's topic in Sociology Forum
I am certain that that's not always the case. Even if there is a short-list of applicants selected for the interview, some departments distribute the interviewees to adcomm members and adcomm members do not always e-mail you or call you on the same day, it depends on their schedule. -
totally agreed! adcomms also should have deadlines!

Yay so many posts! I like the spirit of this forum. I also follow the sociology forum because I've applied to mostly sociology, they are currently slowly awaking from hibernation. I have a question to those on their second round: do you feel less or more anxious? I feel like I would be more relaxed if I was applying for a second time. Being inexperienced, I feel like I have made so many mistakes in my applications (the SOP fit, schools applied etc.) and I am sure I would be more careful and cautious if I had applied a second time, so I would feel more secure now.

I have to write my master's thesis, which sucks! Because I don't even know what's ahead of me next year, I can't find the motivation to deal with something so trivial. I mean if I don't get a phd admission, what is a master's thesis good for?

I think your research interests fit anthropology departments more than sociology. I would advise you to check out which antropology departments study such issues, especially the non-orthodox theories (anthropology is more welcoming to those). Maybe you could apply to a couple of sociology departments that fit your interests, as well as anthropology departments. Regarding changing your school, I think you should do it. It is always better to study somewhere new in gradschool, you get to work with different people, plus I feel like by looking at those cons you won't be happy there if you stay there for another five years. You can get fellowship or TA positions from elsewhere.

would they also pay for international flights?
-
I now wish that I had applied to UCLA or UC Davis.
-
Oh God please fast forward to February!
-
definitely a good website, and a useful one during the waiting process. But I guess it is more revealing for international students who have no or very little relations in the US and applied to grad schools there.

I have news for you: I heard from a faculty member at Berkeley that the admissions committee of Berkeley Sociology will convene and start reviewing the applications next week and we should expect the decisions to come out towards the ends of February. I was also told that each application will be reviewed by three adcomm members, and that's the reason why it will take some time. It is good to know that our applications will be examined from multiple points of view and there is no need to panic if we don't hear from Berkeley soon.
-
yes! very very slow. I hope that on monday (the 20th) we will be hearing more from the schools.
-
not me. But heard that it was a wonderful program if you are interested in public law or socio-legal studies kind of research. Most of the people studying there have already JDs, although I think they may accept students without JD.

there is a Notre Dame interview posted in the survey. So far it is the first sociology interview right?
