  1. Firstly, I think it depends on what field you are in. If you are in the natural sciences then it is more acceptable to have a lower GPA. If you are in the social sciences, then it usually expected to have a higher GPA, due to differences in course difficulty. I would say anything 3.0 and above would be acceptable, at least that is what I have heard from some of my friends that work in pharmaceuticals. I do believe they had around a 3.2 when they graduated.
  2. Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone on here has a MSW and works in Probation or Pretrial services either on the state or federal level? And what helped you get into that position? I current work for a state government in a case management/investigator capacity and was interested in making the transition. Would tailoring my practica to these places help with later employment? Thanks! EDIT: Well crap that title is misleading.
  3. I guess I will be taking the internship then.
  4. Actually it is not close to either of those locations, but sometimes I wish it was. I can do it as a non credit bearing course or credit bearing. The school does have a nice endowment with stipends and such set aside. Plus I am a student at a state university working for the state government so we get nice discounts and such for things like that.
  5. Unfortunately it is an unpaid internship, however it can be renewed as long as I want it to, even after I graduate. So at least, I can continue to get experience that may make me look better for future employment.
  6. I would have to say at my school they are very willing to work with you to help you get what programs you want/need (of course as long as you meet their requirements). I also agree that it may result in only partial funding of your tuition however.
  7. Personally I think the "awkward" professors are the best. They are the ones that care the most about their students and for some reason or another take the time to write amazing letters of recommendation about you.
  8. I have a question. Should I pursue a summer (2016) internship with the Federal government? I already work for a state government and intend on working for the federal government at some point after I have a little more experience in case management/investigations. The agency I would intern with is the one I want to work for in the future. I guess my question is would an internship (in this situation) be worth it? Let me add that I am in a applied field of work, so that may be given consideration.
  9. Definitely use the Magoosh apps. They have two vocabulary apps now. They are pretty good and free!
  10. Keep it. I don't believe it would hold you back too much. Its not worth the extra 185 to bring up your score a few points (which may not even happen). Its a good score!
  11. I would personally go ahead and apply, I believe it would still definitely be worth it with those scores.
  12. Apply if you have research, a decent GPA, volunteering, honor societies, or anything that makes your application stand out more so than the standard Joe, then by all means go ahead and apply with that GRE score. This is for you and the OP. Regardless of what you do, goodluck!
  13. This. Vocab is ok, but the math section was too simple, I was very disappointed. I must say the best thing I used was the GRE official book and honestly that was probably all that I actually needed.
  14. I would probably keep the score provided that you do well on the writing score. That being said I would definitely apply to at least a few safety schools, just for your benefit. Life is all about compromises, but if you don't get in at first you can strengthen your CV and try again next cycle.
  15. This. I would definitely ask. They don't have much to lose and neither do you by asking.
  16. This. If you go and look at programs they will tell you what courses you need, but a major is NOT necessary. Psy.D.s would be easier to get into, but you will need psych research to get into a good clinical Ph.D.
