  1. 1) University of Michigan MSW. 20 month track 2) ~$40k 3) I received enough in scholarships and grants to cover just half of the total tuition.
  2. I only know about UW from the research I've done on their program during my application process, but they do have a great, highly ranked Public Health department (their SW department is also highly ranked) that has a few professors that do research on HIV/AIDS. I know it's not social work, but you could possibly take a few public health classes that are geared toward your goals or even get an MSW/MPH there. If you are interested in going on for your PhD, I would consider taking as many statistics/research classes as you can because it will be a major part of your PhD career.
  3. Why not check out Wayne State/Michigan/MSU in Michigan? I am familiar with WSU and Michigan if you have questions about their program.
  4. That is probably a better idea. Mind posting their response?
  5. I did receive an email late December/early January informing me that they received my application, and that they would let me know soon about their decision.
  6. Im wondering the same thing! I emailed about it several days ago but haven't heard anything back yet.
  7. I received information on scholarships and grants today. They said that I should hear from the office of financial aid at a later date.
  8. Do you mind if I ask what specialty you are going into that would put you at $50-55??
  9. I do research on recall fluency and stereotypic thinking in the psych department where I am currently an undergrad (about to graduate!) In our lab we are working on one project where I am often running participants through a set of tasks and a computer program. This in itself can be methodical, but getting to interact with different participants everyday always brings something new to the table. Developing the research methods when you first begin your project involve a lot of creativity as well as A LOT problem solving. I would also say that it depends on what you are researching and how you are going about it. I can definitely be methodical at some points. MSW03 also brings up a good point that policy change and program development (and program evaluation for that matter) also involve a lot of creativity and problem solving.
  10. I think that research involves a lot of creativity and problem solving. This is one of the reasons I am so drawn to research because I tend to get bored easily, and having done research as an undergrad, there is always something new to figure out or alter, and things typically go at a faster pace (when you have adequate funding). Doing research also gives you the ability to present your findings, which I always find fun.
  11. Awesome. Thanks for posting their response!
  12. Okay. Its been about a month for me as well. I'm hoping to get something soon!
  13. I was accepted I think Jan 16th? and still haven't gotten anything about financial aid. Maybe I should email them and ask?
  14. Has anyone heard back about financial aid/scholarships yet? If so, where do you go to view them?
  15. I agree with what iphi said. I had a similar situation happen. I told them I needed more time to decide, and they were more than happy to accommodate my needs.
  16. For those of you interested in macro social work, consider checking out this blog. I found it pretty helpful in terms of what careers will be available to me after graduating, and what the macro field is like (This is not my blog, just one I found by a Michigan grad). http://michgirlcafe.blogspot.com/
  17. Ah, just a thought, haha. Have you checked on wolverine access?
  18. I'm wondering if they take longer to decide on advanced standing students?
  19. That all is very similar to what I want to do! Just in the realm of public health/health advocacy. Ideally, I would like to work for an NPO doing research or policy analysis. Program evaluation is something that I'm not SUPER familiar with, but because I like stats and analysis I think it is a potential career option. Are job prospects easy to come by being in Macro, or is there not as much support for Macro students? (This is what I have heard from almost every school I've checked out)
  20. The average GPA is 3.5, I'm not sure they have the statistic for median range available. They don't have a minimum GPA though, so if you have a low GPA but make up for that in other areas, you should be okay.
  21. Thank you, I have been looking at various think tank organizations. I do have 3 years before I have to worry about jobs though haha.
  22. What types of field placements have you had? The concentration at Michigan (from what I can tell/have heard) is big on statistics courses, is this the same case with you?
  23. I've had a hard time connecting with people concentrating in policy/program elav (MSW). For those of you who are: what school are you going to? What made you choose this concentration? What do you plan on doing with it after graduating? For those of you have graduated already or have jobs working in policy/program elav: do you like it? Any insight into the different career options available? Thanks!
  24. I'm having such a hard time finding others going into social policy & evaluation!
