1. i never take notes, but all my papers, powerpoints, assignments are stored in my laptop - which btw is also the main workstation from scripting to playing games. and every week or so, i backup my data in an external HD 2. usually, semester\class\<paper folder><assignment folder><lecture slides folder><and so on>\<arrange documents by date> 3. yes, but electronic - saves paper, easy to access later, and works great if you need to send a slice of your lab work to your advisor and collaborators 4. endnote 5. yep your idea of getting a reader (like ipad) is great, and i respect you for making this move. i HATE people when they print numerous papers just because they find a section of that paper somewhat useful. most likely, you are never going to use the papers that you printed last week, because you will be brainstorming on another direction a week later. in case you do need to go back, searching on your machine is lot faster and convenient than going through the stack of useless papers you printed. so, electronic note-keeping is a very noble move.

I have different story. The professor I want to work with (and vice versa) actually emailed me (on top of few phone calls and other emails) and asked how were things going. I was waiting for other schools... most of which were backups. Reading his email was really comforting as he clearly wanted me. So I signed the formal letter, sent it the same day, and also emailed him. Of course, knowing that I will be living one of the most important sections of my life at a place entirely new, where I know no other single soul (just like you said), was/is somewhat scary, and nerve-wrecking. But the feeling of 'I'm done with this hellish application/admission process' is very warm and soothing. I am also hit by some 'bricks' as this whole thing is intimidating. But this is also supposed to be the cornerstone of our careers. Right? So I think we need to leave the shock behind and move on as mighty grad students!

given their performance in the latter part of the season, i hardly doubt Cuse making it to the finals. Kansas though, is a legit contender. either Duke or Ohio state (my guess - Duke) will play the jayhawks in the final. for today's game, i have ND on upset alert.

So, do you want more money, or are you happy with the sum given to you? If you want more, you are going to have to talk with your prof and/or the department. See if there are fellowship and scholarship opportunities. But if you are happy with the sum given, however worried that GPS will take it away - don't worry about it. All GPS does is approve the request submitted by your department, and send you the final, official letter on behalf of the university. Congrats on the acceptance!

How bad is it to accept offers from multiple schools?
eklavya replied to Eisenmann's topic in Decisions, Decisions
you are right, they have nothing to lose. but you my friend on the other hand, have everything to lose. grad programs are very connected these days, and one way or the other, they know which student is working is working for which prof in which school. this is even more true if your program is research based. at the end, you will end up looking as the rotten egg in both baskets. don't do this. wait till april 15 for the funding info, and then decide. if they have funded offer, it is very less likely that they will back out. if you are scared of them backing out, take that offer. but don't double cross grad schools, this ain't time to play blackjack. -
ya dude, that's seriously messed up. i'd be super pissed off as hell too if they don't accept me now.
