  1. Do not listen to ANYONE who says you don't have a chance at getting in to a strong program! You have a lot of great accomplishments under your belt, and have clearly demonstrated that you can acheive in a college setting.I just went through this process with concerns about my GPA and really wish I would have relaxed more about those benchmarks-- feel free to PM me,I'm happy to offer any advice about the clinical process and what you can do to get experience!
  2. I'm not sure about the last part.. it definitely depends on the program and how much you have spoken to the POI before hand, but I've had back to back interviews that led to me missing both of the social functions, and I got accepted at both programs. I think if you represent yourself well in the interview setting, and you took time to explain the reason for your absence, it won't reflect negatively on you as an applicant. However, if it's something you're going to be worried about after the visit, it might be worth looking in to other options- but @vicstory I was in a similar situation with a bus trip and people were entirely understanding! This whole process is expensive and leaves you without much time to plan to reduce costs
  3. I'm not sure how the social program works at UIUC, but I applied to the clinical program and know that they do not hold in-person interviews prior to making a decision, just hold a recruitment weekend in mid-late March. Perhaps if social works similarly it might be helpful to attend? You still have a bit of time to discuss with your POI, but it might be a nice way to meet students who are seriously considering attending and see the campus. Also, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of being reimbursed or funded to fly out for a visit. Even though your POI has not started their contract, if the department approves of his/her move to accept a student, it is quite possible for them to offer financial support, especially if you are seriously considering attending and your POI has agreed to accept you. Best of luck!
  4. I received an interview invitation for Purdue for the same date for Clinical, so I suspect you are correct on that one. I also heard from Penn State for an interview on Jan 31st, and judging from the results board it seems like most of the invitations went out. @dcos my POI at UNC in Clinical emailed this week and mentioned that interview invitations would be sent out on/before January 17th, and when I checked the website said that all invitations would be sent out on that date
