  1. I just emailed the first school I applied to (December 1st deadline) to ask if they have a timeline for notifying us about decisions. And the reply was that we would know sometime next week.... And this isn't even the wait list-- this is for the first round of admits/rejects. Do they really want people to make this huge choice in the 4 days before the deadline? I get that things are hectic but are they really gonna take 4 months to make their decision and give their admits less than a week?
  2. This one's a real thinker: BU, Economics PhD; Rejected: "I bought a watch last year." How... cryptic. I'm not sure exactly how that relates, but deep down I know it does.
  3. Rejections via post but acceptances via email. WHY? It is 2015. What is the logic behind wasting time and paper on people who are going to actively try to forget your answer right after they read it? Just rip the band aid off quick and easy. Might as well send me a dunce cap and a McDonalds application if you are going to make the rejection physical anyways.
  4. A couple other good ones: Quite surprised since my fortune teller said to expect otherwise. Now concerned about the "long life" prediction. Why God WHY!!! Great use of Adele lyrics: nevermind, I’ll find someone like yoouuu, I wish nothing but the best for yoouuu tooo
  5. Favorite so far-- Duke University, History PhD : "I'm paddling a kayak in the lake of tears I've cried all night. Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream of failure."
  6. Hahaha I am in this exact position! I came on this thread specifically to mention that email. A couple people got acceptances about a week ago (and that's pretty much all the acceptances my program does), so I'm thinking that is an unofficial reject for me (or I guess it could be a waitlist)... but MAN that is so cruel if we got rejected and they're still sending us these glorious info emails. "Choosing the right graduate program... that isn't ours"
  7. That might not be as sturdy a disguise as you think. Also-- might be a little weird and out of the blue if you haven't ever talked to him. What would you think if a complete stranger emailed you during a really busy time and asked you to do some work for them? I completely understand your urge to reach out (I wish that I had reached out more before I applied) -- but I think at this point unless you meet him at a conference or visit or something, you might have to reign those urges in. Just one opinion though.
  8. Edit: FoggyAnhinga just pointed out that this thread already exists.
