That's really unfortunate, but I am glad you were able to find your way through on your own and into the second round! I hope you mentioned in the survey that she wasn't helpful in the process since I strongly believe those people should gooo.

I plan to also meet with my FPA, she was very supportive during the whole process and we probably need to get together to tweak some of the words I used, especially after the changes in the security restrictions in my host country. I plan to continue doing my research locally, and apply to local travelling grants. As for the next year, I plan to finish my pilot studying for my thesis/dissertation projects, and reapply to Fulbright. I am taking a pity vacation to Cancun with my brother in late May and next May I will be marrying my SO in Spain. So it won't be such a shabby wait for the next application round.

By the way, I find it highly interesting that an online forum community is creating spreadsheets with useful information on Fulbright. This is data people, legit research, I hope you all update the spreadsheet with the decisions made today so it could be useful for others in the future.

Oops! Well in my experience it was different. The FPA said she would write a letter of support in case we were short of rec letters so I didn't have hers. Unless, it's the University's letter of support? I think my university endorses the top FB projects by writing an additional letter of endorsement, but I guess each school has a different system.

I don't see why they would write a bad letter. I always ask recommenders if they could write me a "good letter of rec." so they can say yes or no (if they're not planning to write a nice one, heh).

I am too scared to ask my FPA she was great but I fear bad news will put her in an awkward position of telling me the bad news. I rather just wait... hmph.

I had an interview in July with the university I affiliated with and they wrote in the letter that I was accepted under the contingency of being funded by Fulbright. I have read in previous threads that people face similar dilemmas and that Fulbright will accept/have accepted additional material and affiliation letters if you pass the first round.

Let this be the year users put "Not Recommended" please. I agree, rejected has too much of a negative connotation.

From what I understand, it's the Fulbright dual committee, or the committee assigned to review applicants that go into their country. The affiliation letters are used more heavily at that stage as well as the statement of grant purpose to determine if the country of interest is willing to have the project/ETA come in. I imagine it would vary if you are applying to specific programs with host affiliations already pre-determined though.

Correct, his application has been recommended, not yet accepted.

The message my affiliation wrote to me this morning after explaining to them what was going to happen today: Now I want to really cry!!!!

By the way, I was checking on the spreadsheet and noticed that the Column for Host Affiliations is "off." Not sure since when or if it can be reversed/fixed, but if you guys wouldn't mind updating that column that would be great.

Yess I love the whole Discovery and Homework series, my personal statement discussed some of the things that happened when I was small and listening to these guys was pretty helpful in recalling fun memories and how they shaped me.

I applied for a Full Grant to Colombia and didn't get an interview e-mail, but for the Full I did have a language evaluation form I had to submit. If your interview is in Spanish, I can help you guys by giving you a mock interview if you wish. Cheers!

I formed such strong ties from my affiliation that they would probably let me go but I still need the money lol.
