  1. Bluefit, you applied for a Fulbright Scholar Grant which is different from Fulbright ETAs or Fulbright Full Grants. I believe this is why you have gotten a response so early. The Fulbright Scholar Grants are for professionals already in the field, while the other grants are for current students or recent graduates. Hope this helps explain why some people haven't heard yet!
  2. Application timeline states that today the Fulbright Committee has started to review our applications. EEK! Good luck to everyone applying!!! http://us.fulbrightonline.org/application-timeline
  3. I would take Fulbright first. Fulbright enhances your application and might be the missing puzzle piece to get into your top choice school. Most graduate programs (at least in my field) will give you until April 1st to make a decision. If the worst case scenario happens, as in, you get alternative status and then get accepted past that deadline (like June), I would still run with the Fulbright. I would say most schools would be okay with you taking advantage of that opportunity especially if you will be entering their program afterwards (helps with the university and department's stats). This all depends on your school, funding opportunities, as well as your advisor's point of view though. You might even want to re-apply to graduate school after Fulbright since it might enhance your application for higher ranked MFA programs.
  4. I got the same confirmation e-mail you mentioned above, but after my university submitted the application to fulbright I got the second one. Not sure how it works when applying At-large. I would e-mail the advisor for Western Hemisphere and just discuss with them the issue in case something happened to the confirmation e-mail (check your junk e-mail too, it could be that it was directed there in August and since it's been over X amount of time sitting at your junk mail, it got deleted). It's better to ask now since they're barely starting to review the applications in this coming weeks. I am applying to the Full Grant in Colombia too which are the 6-7 spots, for Colombia ETAs there are actually 30 spots. http://us.fulbrightonline.org/countries/selectedcountry/143
  5. You're awesome, thanks!
  6. Just found out the country I applied to has a sloth sanctuary. I think I will be devastated for sure if I don't get it.
  7. This seems really cool especially since I applied to Colombia too, but not for an ETA, so I don't think this would apply for me since I am interested in doing research and it seems like I couldn't spend too much time on it if I would be an English teacher volunteer.
  8. I am pretty sure we'll know before that date. I have always seen the January 31st deadline on previous online Fulbright calendars.
  9. That makes me feel a lot better! I used a PC too so that's good. As for me... I am a PhD student and I applied for a Full grant to go to Colombia. This is my first time applying so I am really nervous (obviously). I am coming into this experience with an open mind (trying not to get my hopes up too much). Anyways, I applied for a Psychology Full for Colombia to learn more about intervention programs for children affected by post-conflict cartel violence. I am interested in an exploratory research design to learn about the program's efficacy in hopes of finding successful components. If I am able to go and find success in their intervention programs I hope I can apply it to communities located near the US-Mexican border that are currently experiencing a similar type of violence. That's if I can go in the first place though.
  10. Woops I didn't put my essays in PDF hopefully it won't be a major issue. Did anyone here have an earlier deadline than Oct. 15 because they're applying through their university?
  11. Hi everyone, just wanted to give you a heads up and tell you to double check the pdf version of the application form. 10 days ago I printed a preview and yesterday that I printed another one I noticed that some changes were done in the question that pertains to degrees expected/earned. The Embark application form has always asked if you have been awarded or expect a PhD. The first time I selected yes and I inputed the date of my expected graduation, but when my school printed the application form the question from the .PDF preview was "Earned PhD" which appeared as I selected as "yes". This is a big deal since if it states that I have a PhD I would be moved to another pile for Fulbright Scholars or my application could have been dumped! That was a change my University's Fulbright Committee told me to select as "No" since I didn't have a PhD yet, but yesterday as I was going to submit the final version, I printed the preview and the question now said "Earned or Expected" which I had to go back and select yes again (urrrghhh). This was a change that occurred in recent days, so I am not sure if they were correcting the original error since the question in Embark wasn't matching the preview, or what, but make sure to review the question in the PDF if you haven't submitted it yet! Hopefully no further changes will occur since I am sure people have submitted their applications already.
  12. I caps locked and bolded the headings of my statement of grant purpose. My university's committee didn't say anything about it and I followed a format I saw of a previous Fulbright essay online that was from a winning recipient, so I am guessing yes? BTW I am a new poster here! Not to GradCafe though since I did this whole rejection/accept forum deals for PhD applications in Fall 2011. I am applying for a Research Grant in Latin America and I just finished doing the final revisions for my proposal since I had my fulbright interview on Monday (I am in the top projects among my university so hopefully the good vibes continue until march ). It was fun reading everyone getting accepted last year and the year before. Good luck to everyone in the next coming weeks!!!
