  1. For the UK interview information? http://us.fulbrightonline.org/countries/selectedcountry/244?program_id=217 Special considerations: The Commission will contact short-listed applicants by email to arrange brief and relatively informal telephone interviews (typically in early February), at which stage applicants will need to confirm which university they wish to attend. If you're interested in seeing the other countries you just have to select them from here: http://us.fulbrightonline.org/countries/regions and see if your country of interest requires an interview.
  2. "pls give me a fulbright pls"
  3. If you're speaking about the Student Full Research grants, I think they vary from country to country. In my country of interest I don't need an interview, but I am sure there are others for example the UK who do.
  4. Thought I'd share this from previous years GradCafe users: 2010-2011 Fulbright for All Countries: Alternates: 50 Alternates turned Accepted: 21 2011-2012 Fulbright for All Countries: Alternates: 63 Alternates turned Accepted: 11 2012-2013 Fulbright for All Countries: Alternates: 75 Alternates turned Accepted: 18 2013-2014 Fulbright for All Countries: Alternates: 71 Alternates turned Accepted: 12 This might not answer your question since they're alternates to accepted, but I thought I'd share. I wish Fulbright could have a more clear picture of every country's selection process when it comes to the initial and second phases.
  5. I think they reccommend .5-2x more applicants to the country of choice, and about half of those not chosen become alternates. What I understood, is that the lets say 6 grants are given and they recommend between 10-12 applications, 6 make it to the final round and about 2-3 get alternate status and the remaining are not recommended. I think only up to three people get to be alternates or something like that.
  6. I wrote more than 15 versions for each but I had a lot of people review them and give me feedback which was challenging especially when they tell you to change something and then ask you to go back to a previous version because that one was better. I think the personal statement was the most challenging part for me at least.
  7. While we wait for Tuesday, I was wondering how many drafts did you guys end up for the final PS and SOGP??
  8. That leaves no room for error, yikes. Although as hopeful and positive I am trying to be, I still feel pretty bummed out already, especially when they changed requirements AFTER the deadline in your host countries page (for next year application cycle? I don't know). D: Best luck to all of you, if you need extra support feel free to message me! I know a lot of people might be alone during these anxious days and somewhat devastating news can really bum out people (my poor SO drove plenty of hours to be here with me Thursday night because he didn't want me to be a wreck ball this weekend, heh). I am making sure to buy all my favorite food for Tuesday after 5 PM lol (I have class from 6-9 PM, so that's going to suck).
  9. Imagine if US State dept. interns are looking at this page and laughing at our misery, lol. Jerks. They should just let us know now so we can get on with our lives.
  10. Just reiterating some of the users sentiments from last year: My routine in all of my classes today: *checks grad cafe* *checks email* *checks grad cafe* *checks email* *reloads email* *looks up at professor for less than a minute* Repeat...
  11. Being on gradcafe reminds me of the time I was looking at grad school decisions. Ugh, I never imagined being in this website again, anxiously awaiting for news...sigh.
  12. I saw one of the committee members from my Fulbright interview today. She was very surprised that we haven't heard anything back and from her experience, they're usually notified after applicants. It is possible that the FPA finds out first, and then lets the other committee members know the news (after students are notified). I will still feel pretty bummed out if we don't hear by Friday.
  13. Anahid, I am there with ya.
  14. I am a little OCD and keep re-alphabatizing countries sometimes, so it can look *perfect*, heh.
  15. I am being pessimistic to lalakey, especially since I saw that the security restriction in my host country was changed after applications were due/submitted for the 2014-2015 cycle, which affected my eligibility because I was interested in "certain parts of urban areas" that aren't safe. Alas, I get that they don't want little dumpy lumpy graduate student getting hurt in a foreign country who was funded to be there by tax payers money, but still. I wish I would have known so I could have changed the wording of my proposal/methodology. Anyways, I am sure a lot of people in this forum will get recommended which makes me happyyyy, so I will continue sending the good vibes (and patience vibe) to all.
  16. ETAs go through a similar process, but also have an option that I saw happened in last years ETAs applying to South America countries, like Panama, Argentina, etc. where they were chosen as alternates to their desired country but asked if they would like to be considered to another country (last year's case was Brazil). I know it has also happened in previous years for Germany, and Eastern European countries, which I think it's an advantage compared to those applying for Full grants and need to be placed in that specific country. Of course, last year it was rumored that Brazil's Fulbright commission was asking for more ETAs due to the incoming world cup event there. I am unsure if other allocated resources in the ETAs program can also influence applicants to be placed elsewhere, but I see it as an advantage since you may still get an ETA even if you don't get into your choice country.
  17. You can apply for a Fulbright (At-large) student scholarship.
  18. Hello, have you tried going through their graduate fellowship or scholarship webpage? I found this one: http://gsas.columbia.edu/content/fellowship-faqs, not sure if it will help you find the equivalent in your department.
  19. My bid is this Friday. If they wait any longer, that's just cruel.
  20. I had surgery on Saturday so I am more entertained with the stitches than the thought of hearing about Fulbright tomorrow. I really hope we hear by the end of the week, I just want to get my life going and know what the next six months of my life will look like!
  21. From what I understood of my FPA, she mentioned that the host country institution's IRB equivalent should approve the research, and if I wish to use the data in the US, I should do an additional IRB in my current university. That's the general gist I got, but there is also a research restriction for the host country as well: Restriction: Security considerations preclude projects whose research methodologies or field work are considered to pose security risks. Applicants wishing to conduct research activities are advised that Colombia's security situation is very organic, and that certain cities or towns, sections of urban areas, and rural areas of the country may be designated as restricted areas for security areas. Proposals requiring students to be in these areas will not be approved. All ground travel in Colombia must be approved by the Fulbright Commission.
  22. To those interested in violence, I am wondering, if any of you are worried of running into ethical issues of some sort, or having issues to the equivalent of IRB in the host country?
  23. I am a Colombia applicant but for the research grant, I don't think I have seen a lot of research grants for Colombia in this forum. Alas, good luck to all of you, I hope I can snatch one of the 7 spots for the research grant and if not there's always next year
  24. I think it's the best time to start watching Breaking Bad for those who haven't seen it, are anxious, and have a netflix account.
  25. I am engaged which can get a little complicated if I end up getting recommended, especially since I am going to marry in May 2015 (a week after the grant would finish if I get it).
